Default Seidio Active & Seidio Combo REVIEW

Hey guys,

SoI got my hands on this case for the one S . Its as u know a two piece hybrid one.

The active can be purchased by itself or on the "combo version which is simply the addition of a holster.

I like seidio cases, they are decent and they give good protection.

Enjoy

Got the Seidio Active Combo today.
The case itself is good, but as a combo (with holster) it is terrible. It definitely has a huge flaw in design (not only HTC 1S case, but others too). The holster clip part that supposed to secure phone to the holster pushes back the rubber and most of the time does not engage. If you put the phone in the holster without looking, and let it go thinking that it is secure, phone just falls back most of the time. I would say that it would cause more damage to the phone using this combo case rather than just a naked phone.
Another thing I just can't understand is why they left such a huge gap in between the case and the holster. Screen doesn't touch the holster anyway due to the silicone lip around, so they just made the combo about 3mm thicker than it needs to be. Again, bad design.
One thing I like about the holster is the belt clip. It feels much better than otterbox cases that I have tried before (not with this phone though).

Overall:
Case only - good.
Combo (case/holster) - terrible.
Also quite overpriced for what it is.

The only way I could make it useable is by cutting off the top rubber piece, which made it a lot less attractive. Alternative would be using glue to attach rubber piece to the top of the phone so it can't be pushed back, but that means potentially messing up $500 phone with glue residue.

Seidio really needs to fix this huge design flaw, because it is the same issue not only with this combo, but also with their similar active case combos for other phones.

Ouch that looks it could possibly scratch your phone closing it like that. Can't you just left the clip and ease the phone w/ case in? I rather do that then cut or add something onto the case. Doesn't seem too much more work for the protection and holster.

The issue here is that without some kind of modification, using this holster becomes a chore and/or very unsafe due to a faulty design.
I can engage the lock, if I fiddle with it, but this fiddling is the last thing I want to do. Here are couple of reasons. First, you need to pay a lot of attention to the process of holstering the phone. If you don't look and make sure that you're doing it right, you might end up with the phone that is not secured to a holster, which makes every holstering a possibility for disaster, especially if you're around water. If you're in a hurry, if you're drunk etc, your chances of loosing your phone are very high. Second, let's say that you're always aware of the issue, always in control of your motor actions etc. Holstering becomes a chore. Every time you get you phone out even for brief moment to check the incoming message, email or get the time, you might end up spending the some time fiddling with the lock, making sure that it is secure. If you multitasking or doing stuff on a run, it means that you need to shift your attention or stop for a moment, maybe use both hands to deal with the phone case. That simply doesn't work for me. I have been using holsters for more than a decade (usually with naked phone) and got used to a certain amount of comfort that they provide. Dealing with faulty design everyday is quite frustrating.

I did solve this problem the best way I could think of. I have lost a bit of protection as a result, but now at least I know for sure that I won't drop/damage/loose my phone, due to the lock failure. Now the whole procedure of holstering is butter smooth and secure. I just wish that people at Seidio got it done right from the beginning. Only thing that they need to do is to add another plastic clip that goes on top over the rubber (like on the corner). That is it. But because they didn't do it right, you would need to spend your time and fix their mistakes, so you can have a useful product.
