I've read a few other threads about Google Now, but none of them are in the ion section. So I'm not gonna be following directions designed for something else. But since he's found a way to make everything work, I'll wait for his guide

The guide will be up tonight! (Its currently 2pm where I am) I've got some errands to run for a little while first.

Ill post it in this thread, and OP can link to the post if they wish, for fast navigation. I started it last night...I only wanna type it up once, so I'm making sure its right and easy to follow the first time, before posting.

Default Google Now Install Tutorial - Without Recovery

First and foremost... If THIS POST did not exist, nor would this tutorial. So be sure and thank them.

I'm sorry for the initial mixup on this everyone. The previous method was overwriting a certain folder, when in fact we needed to just overwrite a few files. This method posted here is extremely simple, and I have duplicated this three times to make sure I didn't miss anything.

The usual disclaimer stuff... The only person in charge of your actions and what you do is YOU, not me or anyone else here. That means all responsibility is yours as well. So, let's get started.

What You Need:
-ES File Explorer Installed
-THIS Zip File (This is ReekoTubbs version, but is NO LONGER FLASHABLE)

Zip File Contents:
Two APK Files
-Velvet.apk
-GoogleTTS.apk

Two Folders
-srec
-lib

Quote:
Installing

Step One: Copy the contents of the zip file to your SDcard on your phone.

Step Two: Open ES File Explorer and press "Menu" then press "Settings." Now make sure the box that says "Up to Root" is checked. Scroll all the way down, and also check "Root Explorer." This will now prompt you for SuperUser permission. Grant it. Now still on that same screen, check the box that says "Mount File System"

Step Three: Using ES File Explorer, navigate to where you copied the zip file contents. (You did extract it first, right? If not, go back and do that, then come back here.) Copy Both APK files to /system/app on your phone.

Step Four: Delete GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk and VoiceSearch.apk from your /system/app folder
step 4 a) Now rename Velvet.apk to GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk

Step Five: Go back to your files you copied, and copy the CONTENTS of the lib folder to /system/lib/ on your phone. (DO NOT COPY THE WHOLE FOLDER, ONLY ITS CONTENTS!!! Failure to do this properly, will result in Boot Loop)
NOTE - This is a total of FOUR files that we are copying INSIDE the /system/lib folder on your phone.

Step Six: Now copy the srec folder to /system/usr/srec on your phone, OVERWRITING/MERGING the existing srec folder.

Step Seven: Reboot your phone, and then give it a go

Weird, followed directions and now I have boot loop!!! Dammit!!!

Question, considering the fact that root explorer has the ability to mount System as r/w, is the app Mount System R/W really required?

No, not really. But everyone doesn't have or want to pay for root explorer.

At which reboot point do you have a boot loop? There are three mentioned in the tutorial.

Also, when you copied the folders from the working folder to the phone...did you also copy the system folder? If so, that's your boot loop. If not we need to find the issue.
