I got a question in PM about this, thought I'd answer in here in case anyone else would find it useful.

To apply that file Orical uploaded, you can...
manually dd it into the emmc:

* put it on your sdcard
* from an adb shell or terminal: (either in recovery or while booted; make sure you're root, otherwise su)
dd if=/sdcard/mmcblk0p14.img.bak of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14

...or you can make a flashable .zip and flash it in recovery:

* take one of the flashable .zips I posted in this thread, unzip it
* rename the .bak file to splash.565 and replace the one from the .zip
* zip it back up, put on sdcard, flash from recovery

On your next reboot you're presented with the ugly stock white boot splash.

I didn't rename it by accident but to make it easier just rename it by deleting (.bak) and you can do it that way, my bad about that one. Thanks for posting the method I was on my phone when I caught the post so I just uploaded it and posted it from there.

I quit!

I've tried dd'ing it, I've tried flashing it. Hell at one point I spun around on the spot three times whispering 'HTC One S you are amazing so please work' under a full moon with all the planets in alignment and still all I ever see is that horrible white screen.

Thanks for your efforts though good to see people figuring this stuff out for us mere mortals.

Oh man, maybe you were the one that got the one demon phone that HTC made just to screw with us. You know, the one that they announced? Its just like getting a golden ticket in your chocolate bar, except you don't get a golden ticket. You get a One that can't have custom splash screens.

Seriously though, i'm convinced it's either in your file placement or the way you're formatting the file. The easier way imo is to flash it. Check your resolution (540 x 960), save it as a bmp. Grab ffmpeg and use the commands on the second page of this thread to convert it to a .565 file and place it in the correct folder, (cache I think), then flash it using your Recovery. Best of luck mate.

Also this for y'all ;p

^^^^ That's brilliant! ^^^^

As for the file I'm actually using the zip file from the first post so not my own conversion. The file has been taken from the zip file and place in the root directory of my sdcard. I've done this before with all my previous phones but this one just won't stick. I've also tried flashing as asked for a page or two back to boot into recovery from bootloader or from like I use quickboot and just for good measure from the extended apm I have with the rom I use.

I'll try again and see what else I can think of. And when it comes to android fella you'll do well to learn....
Just because something works on one phone don't mean it will on another. Android phones are famous for it.

Edit: When I do the dd it always gives the output 2025+0 in and 2025+0 out then states its transfered the data but to me that doesn't look right. I admit to being a windows gimp so have little experience with linux but surely it should output a +1 for file in? And just to double check my commands are correct...

su
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/custom.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14

According to your sig, you're on hboot 1.14. That means ugly white splash for you. Sorry.
(Until s-off or some means to downgrade hboot )
