Probably but will try this, it sounds like a cool idea / good workaround!!

Just tried it and no sound was recorded it disables the mic completely.
Found out another bug in the FW / Cam software it completely disables the mic while the headset / mic port was plugged in, instead of using the microphone on the externally plugged headphone / mic line.

Try another app if it works at all. Like the included sound recorder or the phone app.
And be sure the mic works and is actually proper TRRS.

PS: Wait there is no phone...silly me

Oh the mic works alright, because I've used it for Skype and it was produced by Samsung which came with Samsung's Galaxy S3.

Ok so I can actually hear the infamous "click" on both of my units while in regular camera mode. So I got to looking and it appears that when you initiate the "press to focus" the camera focus mechanism spazzes out and slams into the clear lens on on the back casing.... well its either this or its trying to move in two directions at once and the gears are stripping...

regardless I do not recommend using the press to focus feature until asus addresses it.

I accidentally my whole evo 3d. Is...is this safe?

No seriously, I get clicking whenever I open the camera on my evo 3d, and nothing has happened to the image quality yet.

Can anyone tell me whether this issue has been fixed by any of the firmware updates? If not, are currently selling units still experiencing the problem?

This is not just an issue on the infinity, I had the prime and had the clicking on that as well, but it doesn't bother me much.

The issue is the auto focus on small camera's in tablets and phones. The auto focus can only adjust the lens in one direction, when it reaches the end of its adjustment the lens 'bounces' back to the other end of its adjustment. so what happens when you touch to focus is the lens being adjusted through its full range, bouncing back and adjusting back to where the camera software found the best focus. this happens on almost all cameras with small inbuilt focus control but is much louder in the transformer range.

Basically its no hardware fault, just a noisy sensor and bad mic placement.
