I see that there are sites claiming to have 1.2GHz mtk6577 versions with 1GB RAM and 1280x720 screens. Was just wondering if this was true (if anyone owns one?) and if their performance is any good?

looks to be the packaging of the unit...pretty damn good copy if you ask me...no doubt it will fool those who have no tech background...and just want a S3 for cheap price...looks like somewhere south east asia...

wonder if any S3 drop test actually used this copy? hahaha

at least it takes a normal sim card hahaha...the only advantage for those coming from a S2 or anything thats not an Apple essentially...

What's one thing to look for when buying a S3 to make sure it isn't fake?

I'm buying one today and want to be careful, the design is good although it looks fat and the specs are good so I probably wouldn't notice on first glance. Is there an app that the fake is certainly not going to have?

The price and the retailer are your best bets. Buy one from a site/shop with lots of good reviews on various different sites and with a returns policy and good customer service, then you can't go wrong. If you're British, I can recommend Handtec and Clove, and the official Amazon seller, listed as amazon.co.uk on a product page

The real deal is worth every cent.
I'm only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

Phone: Samsung GT-I9300 Galaxy S III running CrapWiz.
Tablet: ASUS Nexus 7 WiFi 32GB running SmoothROM.

What im interested in if this was a phone running MTK6577 with 1GB RAM and a 4.7"/4.8" 1280x720 screen? Does anyone know of any phones with such specifications (or close)? Not sure you can trust many of these 'retailers'.

Of course, if you order it from a different country and it gets detected at customs, they will confiscate and probably destroy it as a copyright/patent/trademark violation.

Take a look at http://www.greatsku.com/wholesale/gt...ps-camera.html for an example of the current pricing.

Lol what? That statement has to be flawed as I don't see any logic in why customs would destroy a knockoff phone.

I remember buying one of these knockoffs in '09.. it was an iPhone 2g knock called the "sciphone". P.O.S, mind you, but it wasn't confiscated seeing how I got it.. maybe laws have changed since then, I dunno.

But yeah, don't buy knockoffs ppl. No support, laggy, probably no firmware upgrades and no warranties.. unless you're fine with all of that

Border agencies confiscate anything that breaches copyright laws, such as counterfeit goods that are aimed to get money from leading brands. An example of this is t-shirts and other clothes, branded to say, Quicksilver, but are not genuine. They destroy those. Phones are the same, but more money. They check all parcels from countries such as Taiwan, which are not shipped by reputable sources. If a brand new looking galaxy s 3 appears, they're bound to be suspicious, as it isn't coming from a company like Amazon or Samsung themselves. They'll check it, and find it isn't genuine, cease it and decide what to do, which may involve destroying it.
