How to restore contacts from backup
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"A quick and effective backup method is to copy the pim.vol in the root directory to your SD card. I used this method when flashing my rom. You'll need to use Totalcommander to change the rights of the file after flashing because it's read-only, then copy the pim.vol from the SD to the root directory and reset and all should be well."
Hi there, I found and copied my pim.vol and have upgraded to the new HTC rom, so need to restore all my contacts from this file (which I saved to storage card). Where do I copy it bac to please, exactly...? I tried the ppcbckpcontacts software but this cannot see the pim.vol file for some reason...
Thankyou for any assistance!

best Way to Backup contats
Hi Guys,
this is my first post, I was using Outlook for the last 2-3 years but it is such a pain in a$$ when you have 3 phones to back up for.
Just 3 weeks ago, I come across something incredibly light and easy. Jeyo Mobile Comapanion... merely 1.09 mb installation file.
There are many torrents available on internet for this software.
as they say ENJOY !!!

Hi! Very dumb question: this application backups pictures (and in a very good way, as all the rest) but... what actually does? I suppose it doesn't copy the pic to, for example, a new device in which I restore the contacts of an older one, it actually creates a "copy" of the image that is stored within the PIM file of the phone, and not a link to an image locate somewhere else on the device, am I right? And for the ringtone, I suppose it creates the lionk instead?
Anyhow, sorry for the stupid questions, I am just a bit curios;
All I actually wanted to say is THANK YOU!
Cheers.

Hi frankysour,
The picture is indeed embedded in the backup as it is stored in the pim database. The ringtone as you mentioned is just a link to a music file stored somewhere on the device. Files backups are managed by the custom item type in pimbackup.
Cheers,
Fred

What are file formats of text backup files?
Hi -
I just ran PIM Backup 3 and saved in text backup format. Have searched dotfred's website and googled: where can I find file formats for the backup files?
e.g. my .csa file has something like:
1st line:
"0xe6,0xd2,0x9a,0x2a,0x2f,0x90,0x1c,0x2d,0x4e,0x20 ,0x2e,0x88,0x5b,0x2f,0x7a,0x7e,0x47,0xbe,0x2a,0xbd "
another line:
"Courtcash webinar";"0x00,0x00";"";"0xfe,0xff,0x00,0x00";"0x0 2,0x00,0x00,0x00";"";"0x3c,0x00,0x00,0x00";"0x00,0 x00,0x00,0x00,0xbc,0xd3,0xe3,0x40";"0x00,0x00";""; "0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00";"0x0f,0x00,0x00,0x00";"0x04, 0x00,0x00,0x00";"0xff,0xff";"";"0x00,0x00,0x00,0x0 0";"0xab,0xaa,0xaa,0xaa,0xba,0xd3,0xe3,0x40";"0x00 ,0x00,0x00,0x00";"0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x 00,0x00,0x3c,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x 00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xec,0x3f,0x00,0x00,0x 00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x ff,0xff,0x00,0x00,0xff,0xff,0xff,0xff,0x00,0x00,0x 00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xdc,0xfd,0x2c,0x41,0x 00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xa0,0xd3,0xe3,0x40,0xff,0xff,0x ff,0xff,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0xab,0xaa,0xaa,0xaa,0x aa,0xaa,0xea,0x3f,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x00,0x 00,0x00";
The only information that I can use is the appointment name "Courtcash webinar"...
I see that several others have asked this question, but I did not find any responses.
I see that daveams wrote some javascript to partially address this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...postcount=1485
