I used the SG3 Toolbox which was located here at XDA. Worked like a charm.

flashing the OTA with root injected via Odin is probably the easiest;

just make sure you download the correct TMO T999UVALH2 update.

I just plugged into my PC and updated via Kies. Updated no problem but lost root. Going to leave it unrooted until JB update comes in the next few days. After I get the stock update I'll start looking for roms.
Samsung Galaxy S3 32GB White - 64GB SanDisk

Just thought I'd add, since it's not here, I preserved root with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper: temporary unroot to get the update. Root restored just fine.

I also had repeated failures, and based on what was failing on the OTA for the Lenovo ThinkPad, I put all the stock apps I had "removed" to a folder on my sd card back in the system folder, and things went well.

(It was getting the stock recovery to flash via Odin to replace my early version of CWM and resetting the flash counter that was the bulk of the work - not that it was hard, but it was definitely more than using Voodoo).
T-mobile S3, stock rooted
Galaxy Note GT-N7000 leaked stock JB, cleaned up
TPT 16gb stock rooted back from repair & working beautifully
Vibrant & still pretty happy with it with CM10.1 (Apr 15 nightly)
