still no go, if no one minds, I'm going to list what I did and maybe someone will see an obvious bonehead move:
1) have a new clean 4GB microSD (Lexar) formatted FAT32
2) downloaded Mirage_CM7_ICS_CM9_DualbootSD.img.zip from http://techerrata.com/browse/nook/racks
3) extraceted it
4) DD'd image to SD card
5) booted NC off CM7 (setup wireless)
7) downloaded and CM9(setup wireless)
8) under CM7 downloaded gapps-GB-20110828-DualbootSD.zip and gapps-ICS-20111125-DualbootSD.zip from http://techerrata.com/browse/nook/racks/gapps
9) reboot into recovery
10) use recovery to load the 2 GAPPS
11) reboot into CM7 no sign of GAPPS to market no gmail etc
12 reboot into CM9 gmail is present PLAY is present, everything works as expected.
Now when I did my wifes I saw market under cm7 (which upgraded to PLAY on my 1st download) and CM9 had everything.
anyone have any ideas?
otherwise I may throw my hands up and tell her shes stuck w/ CM9
Just some idea for you.
Try with other brand of sd card preferably SanDisk.
I had some strange gapps behaviour also before till I used a SanDisk.

First of all, thank you, racks11479, this awesome tool.
I succeeded to install CM9 on the primary partition of SD card, but not for gapps.
It is not enough changing "system" to "system1" in the updater-script of gapps.
Like http://techerrata.com/browse/nook/racks/gapps , mounting device is necessary, at least my case.
So for gapps on the priramry partion,
the line of updater-script
run_program("/sbin/busybox", "mount", "/system");
should be changed as
mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk1p2", "/system1");
in your gp() function.
I did manually.
Hey guys, well you were right, I changed brands of SD cards and everyything worked great.
Them my wife loaded an app onto the ICS side that wasnt certified for ICS and suddenly CM9 stopped loading.
So I went and cleared uot the cache's, no go. Then I tried JUST reloading CM9, still no go.
SO I zapped everything back to zero and everything SEEMED to be working just fine, then I went into PLAY, loaded 2 APPS reboot and now PLAY wont work at all.

It loads and then immediately closes.
anyone have any ideas before I go back to zero?
If a ROM starts creating problems, you just have to reflash it and then flash also the gapps.
In your case seems like gapps aren't working. Reflash them and be sure you are flashing the correct version.

Tried myshelf also the Krylon's Rom and it seems to work fine after upgrading over CM9 nightlies.
It's a bit faster in general, but only misdrop is that navigation bar icons get really tiny when you get inside an app. I see that many people have the same problem but trying the solution to add an extra button didn't work for me.
