HTC One X - 16 GB
Official IFA announcement
HTC has sent word that they are ready to roll out a more affordable version of the quite popular HTC One X superphone.
It turns out that a cheaper version of the HTC One X is on the way, with 16GB of internal storage. It will allow consumers to choose between 16GB and 32GB versions and it could allow carriers to bundle the phone with cheaper plans.
The rest of the spec including 8-megapixel camera, Tegra 3 processor, 1GB of RAM and operating system remain unchanged, as well as the screen and design.
The official suggested retail price of HTC One X with 32GB is still €599 and CHF 719 in Switzerland but we found them available from €469, here.
It is safe to assume that 16GB version in stores has to come at a significantly lower price and we got a word that this should happen as soon as August 31, as soon as Berlin based IFA 2012 consumer electronic trade show kicks off.
We asked HTC for an official suggested retail price of HTC One X 16GB but didn’t get a reply at press time. HTC still sticks with its “fewer SKUs is better” and it currently offers the HTC One X for high end, One S for mainstream and One V for value market. The newcomer One C is for consumers who are really on a tight budget but still want an Android 4.0 phone.
HTC One X 16GB will certainly be interesting for many European carriers, as they could ship quite a few of these cheaper models in the pre-Xmas shopping spree that is about to start sooner rather than later.

We already have this in the US, it's called the..... HTC One X. Or rather, the "HTC One Half." Seriously, what you described is almost identical to the "Evita" version of the HOX that is sold in the US.

Well, yeah. But you have to exclude all the differences, like processor/graphics, presumably LTE, and whatever else is completely different. Whether that matters to average Joe, is another matter, but on this forum, it matters.

Aside from the fact that bar the form factor (ish), camera and LCD, the US HOX(L) shares nothing in common with the international version. Personally, I think it'd be an upgrade if we could have the US version over here.
This is the Tegra 3 (hot, crappy battery life, not much better performance) version but castrated to 16GB.
Of course, I'm sure the cost difference between a 16GB and 32GB HOX will be vastly more than the $2-3 difference in the NAND cost, I've never really understood why people put up with the massive markup manufactures charge for a couple of dollars worth of extra NAND. Then again, Apple are the worst for that
Current:
LG Mako - AOKP PUB/Harsh Kernel | Asus Grouper - AOKP PUB/M-Kernel | Motorola Olympus - epinter CM10.1 | HTC Vision - Flinny CM10.1
Past:
HTC EndeavorU (eMMC Read-Only Bricked) | HTC Bravo (Sold) | HTC Dream (Retired) | Apple iPhone 2G (Retired as a music player)

Have to agree, dunno whether they are losing from the price markings down on 16GB or gaining from the price marking up from 32GB but the sheer gap in price really isn't justified when you actually talk about what you're gaining or losing in terms of the physical storage space in your device lol

Even better idea: Why not roll out 64 GB and 128 GB for an extra 25 dollars per 32 GB?

I don't know if the ram is on chip, but if it is, heat/yield, etc.

Check here.. My tests with both devices don't bear that out. The global hox is faster in nearly every test I ran and quite a bit faster in a few of the tests. Granted, my observable battery life isn't as great as the "Evita" hox, but it didn't affect my usage scenarios. Both phones still needed to be charged at the end of the day which makes them identical in my book.
As for the lack of LTE support, my global hox is using what ATT calls their 3G network(HSPA+) through Straight Talk. Sure, it's only 5-10mb/sec or so based on my speed tests whch is not as fast as my RAZR on Verizon's LTE network at 30-50 mb/sec but in all honesty, I don't really notice. Web pages still are snappy, I can stream HD content on netflix, and I can still do everything I did using my RAZR.
I don't get the tradeoff. For me, the difference between the global and the us hox isn't worth the lte capability. It smells like carriers trying to push users to faster networks where they don't offer unlimited plans, so that users can use their data faster than before so then they will need to purchase data at an even more inflated price.

I couldn't care less about LTE. We don't have it yet in the UK, and if they roll out at the same speed as they rolled out WCDMA, it'll be 2020 before it's actually worth having an LTE phone.
But given that there's practically no perceivable performance difference (I don't really give a stuff what fantasy Android benchmarks claim, and I'm sure I could find you half a dozen the Evita wins at if anybody actually cares) between a 720P Tegra 3 device and a 720P Snapdragon S4 Dual device, I'd take the latter every time for the extra battery life.
Is it really all about e-peen benchmarks these days? Does anybody actually use devices, or are they just benchmarking toys?

Flash memory is so cheap these days I don’t know why these manufacturers even bother with 16GB variants. Having less memory shouldn’t have a significant impact on the cost, according to this article, extra 16GB shouldn't cost more than $11 on average.
