Do you have a source for this claim, last I read on the Corecodec forum Betaboy said 1.4 is going to be another bug fix release, no changes as far as hardware acceleration for Qualcomm MSM is concerned. Full hardware support has been promised for one of the upcoming releases, which leaves a lot of room for interpretation...
No matter how you look at it, the involved parties might not even have a strong motivation to improve on the MSM's capabilities as there are new products with new chipsets coming out and a, shall we say, destinct difference in performance is a good thing to move the prospective customers to purchasing those newer devices and abandon the ones they already got. Face it, MSM devices are 'dead meat' as far as these companies are concerned.
If you are fine with what your HD can do now
it's all dandy, if you are hoping for markedly improved performance sometime soon, don't hold your breath.
On a more positive note, the HD does a lot of things considerably well and I agree I'd still take it over the Iphone or any other device currently available. Haven't seen any newer devices that have way nicer aesthetics or a better overall design, for me HTC hit a sweet spot between screen size and pocketability.
