Yeah the PlayStore wasn't showing me any images the first time I was using it as well, the videos will show, but it won't show the images. It seem to have been fixed since I restarted the phone. And Youtube seem to be working fine for me, and everything is smooth, even updated to the latest version in the past day or two.

I hated the browsers lol. Downloaded flash from the Adobe site and installed Firefox :p

I'm using LUV's version, and it's definitely faster than option B. The only difference I can think of between B and C is that B has EMUI's stock Launcher.

And nvana, try option C and update to Holo Launcher HD, pretty much a stock JB feel :D

I had a family friend bring the phone here from China in October and have been using it since. Great upgrade from my Nexus S lol

I would want to learn on how to make a ROM, but I have absolutely no experience. I would love to learn how I can port over the stock JB over xD

And regarding the reception, I have noticed that too in buildings, but for me, it could be because of Mobilicity's reception though :S

Chrome has definitely come a long way since it was first released! Definitely my browser of choice now.

I'm using LUV's version with Holo HD. Seems fairly fluid.

Any Swiftkey users here? My main gripe with this phone is that it can't seem to keep up with fast typing. A lot of the times, the first letter of a word is missing, or two keystrokes register as a right-to-left swipe, thereby clearing the word typed (a Swiftkey feature to delete words). Another test I've done was to type a bunch of random words, followed by deleting each one by performing the right-left swipe repeatedly. More often than not, the gesture will fail, and I'll end up typing the letter where I began the swipe.

... my Captivate registers keystrokes flawlessly.

Anyone else experiencing something similar?

I had the exact same issue! my GNex runs fine but on the D1 it laggs abit and I have the hptic feedback on and with it you can really feel the lag since the vibrates builds up.

For the no picture issue. I tried every ROM and setDNS and also wipe delvik and restart ... still no avail. I will try it again

Oh man. I'm honestly pondering either swapping out for a Galaxy Nexus at this point, or switching over to Koodo (Galaxy S2X); I'd much rather support Wind, though.

Nvana, with regards to the reception differences between the Nexus/ D1, are the differences enough that you notice surfing (etc.) to be much faster on the Nexus?

EDIT: I've downloaded the Jelly Bean 4.2 keyboard from Play Store, and will give it a whirl. I wonder if Swiftkey has a quirk with the K3 CPU... might be worth a shot to report this to the devs? Kind of liking the 4.2 keyboard though... :)

Browsing is not an issue and it seems fine but just cell signal. I seem to notice when I cover the bottom portion of phone the signal drops. The signal is actually stronger than GNex when I just hold the top of the phone. Lol try it, cover the bottom portion where the speaker is and for me it can drop 3 bars max when I hold it wrong.

I'm still having issue with the play store not showing image and YouTube not loading issue.

I try DNS Google, open, level 3 and clear data reboot... No avail. Any of you can comment on that? I'm on LUV

Ah - will test covering the bottom portion in a bit. :p

Play Store still doesn't show images, as well. Cleared data/ cache, no luck. What if we downgraded to an older version? Think that'd work?

I don't think it has to do with the version? It seems to be the Rom.... Because I try downloading different market and still same problem.

Is your YouTube loading? Mine will not load and not even the website

Oh, bummer.

While my workplace (located downtown Toronto, Canada) is a bit of a black hole in terms of data-reception (I have 3-4 bars, HSPA and 3G alternate, but data is just slow as hell here), I - too - am having trouble connecting to Youtube (via website or app). I'm going to keep trying throughout the day, and am hoping that it's just a reception thing.

I assure you its not a reception thing because I tried everything. Hope simon can help us figure this out...

By the way my battery life supprisingly sucked on the JB I'm down to 77% in in 4 hours... Compare to my results I posted previously...

It is very weird that you guys still have the loading problem, have you guys tried clearing the dalvik cache? It can be found in Advanced Settings (Option 7) in the Custom Recovery. If that doesn't work, I would say do a complete reset and flash the google apps again. Is it just Youtube and the playstore not functioning properly? What about the other features like Google Now?

Andy would you want to meet up so I can try it on your phone? My phone came with the Chinese firmware version and not the International firmware version and from what I know that should be the only difference. But I'm not sure how that has anything to do with it though..

Yeah the battery drain is one major complaint of the current version of EMUI, I believe they're working on a fix. I still seem to be get a decent use out of it and still have some left after work though.

Hey Simon, no, haven't tried clearing dalvik yet. I'll try it in a bit.

Just tried firing up Google Now for the first time on this device, which worked (didn't go through the initial screens though, but we can assume it'll work !).

So far, yes, it appears that only Youtube and Play Store (same version as yours) aren't working 100%.

Appreciate the offer to help in person. :) I'll try playing around some more with it, and keep you posted, if anything (will be updating this thread with any progress, anyway).

While my usage is very inconsistent, it does seem like battery life has taken a bit of a hit since flashing. Granted, I had the phone on Performance mode since yesterday and used to run it at Balanced. Considering the bad reception in my office, I would imagine this to have quite the impact (assuming Balanced toggles data on and off, much like Juice Defender, etc. does).

Just a thought: perhaps we should perform an entire format before flashing, as opposed to just doing a wipe? Can't see why this would be necessary though, given that JB isn't too different from ICS (as opposed to going from GB > ICS, for example).

Haha no problem, let me know if it works after clearing the cache.

Yeah I think that might be the reason, because on performance mode, the phone will try to sync more often, and with bad reception, that'll do horrors to the battery lol but on balanced mode, it won't update as often, and syncs when you unlock the phone if you're on battery

I think the wipe is pretty much a factory reset/formatting so it should be fine. So backup your apps with Titanium Backup, and do a flash/wipe of everything that you wiped before and this time the dalvik cache as well. And then try flashing in GApps after that :)

Let me know if that works, if not, I'll see if I can get my hands on a phone from Wind to work on, will be hard though lol

Clearing dalvik didn't work. :(

Thanks for the updates! Might as wait until they're released, and try wiping entirely then.

Yeah I tried many times with clearing the delvik cache and it didn't work. I think it has to do with the phone.

Did a complete wipe. New boot animation now shows.

Admittedly, when I flashed LUV's, I didn't wipe prior to. :D

Will post with update soon.

EDIT: Bleh, still no go. I'm wondering if it's a region-specific thing now, whereby these ROMs won't work 100% on non-China based ones.

Downloading the stock ROM now.

UPDATE: Aaaand the stock recovery gave a "signature verification" error, and without advanced options, looks like I'm kinda stuck... (phone still boots up and runs the current ROM - LUV's JB - however)...

Hi Simonfzhao,
I've got this phone from China as well (U9510E).
Currently having the chinese version 4.0.4 (Build Number: U6510EV100R001CHNC00B122) but I am not able to install "Gmail" or "Google Play" store.

I am not the programmer expert but gadget guy who loves this phone and want to get the maximum out of it, hence I would like to try to put on it the International JB version.
I've re-read this entire thread few times and I've got some feelings that the Huawei is going to upgrade their website with the the JB version soon...

Question: Knowing your resources, is there any chance that this "here say" can become the true anytime soon?

thanks
Marco

Hi Andy,
I can see you know this phone "from back to front".
After your rooting and getting JB done are you able to install Gmail?
Thanks
Marco

    Hello Everyone,

Below is a tutorial I have compiled and translated from bbs.anzhi.com on how to update your Huawei Ascend D1 Quad XL (U9510E) to the latest version of Android offered by EmotionUI, Jelly Bean 4.1.2:

First of all, I want to give credit where credit is due:
genokolar (aka G大) - Creator/Modder of the Custom Recovery for this, and many other phones coming out of China
Ry09iu (aka R大) - Creator of a Rooted ROM based on EmotionUI B534, which is based on Android 4.1.2
【LUV】 - The board moderator for the D1Quad section of bbs.anzhi, also who's ROM release I used for my phone, but it's upto you to choose which one you want to use

**IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOU TO ATTEMPT THIS IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH FLASHING PHONES. IN THE CHANCE THAT YOU BRICK YOUR PHONE, I CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR IT**

**DON'T FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR FILES!!**

Now that the credits and the warning are given, let's get started:

    Required Tools:
    1. Recovery 6.0.1.9: This tool will open in command prompt and will allow you to flash in the Custom Recovery created by genokolar, as well as the stock recovery released by Huawei. Mirror

    2(a).Official ROMs:

    i. Official EmotionUI ROM B551 (Updated January 11, 2013): Release Notes

    2(b).Custom ROMs:

    i. Rooted Version of EmotionUI Rom (Author: genokolar):
    - B534 Download

ii. Rooted Version of EmotionUI Rom (Author: Ry09iu):
    - B534 Download
    - B538 Download

iii. Rooted Version of EmotionUI Rom with HOLO as default Launcher (Author: Ry09iu, Modded by LUV):
    - B534 Download
    - B538 Download
    - B542 Download

iv. MIUI V4.1 - converted from MIUI V4.1 for Honor 2 (Author: Ry09iu):

    3. GApps [Jelly Bean 4.1.2 (Author goo.im/gapps)]: Download

*The roms are hosted in China so the download will be slow, please be patient and your download will be done in an hour or two :)*

**PLEASE PLACE THE ROM YOU WISH TO UES INTO YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD BEFORE CONTINUING**

    Step 1: Flashing Custom Recovery
    1. Turn-on USB debugging on your phone [Settings -> Developer Settings -> USB debugging]
    2. Plug in your Phone to your computer via USB for it to install the appropriate drivers*
    3. Run recovery6.0.1.4_AscendD1Q.exe
3.5 If your system locale is set to anything other than Chinese, you will get this:
    13537413.png

But what you should see is this:
    grecovery.png

    What that means is: said:
    **-1. Flash Chinese Custom Recovery-**
    **-2. Recover Official Recovery-**
    ##-3.Reboot phone into Recovery-##
    4. Type in "1" and press Enter -> This Recovery Flasher will do what it's made to do and when it's completed, your phone will now have a custom recovery.
    5. The application will automatically close 10 seconds after the Recovery has been successfully flashed.

    Note from Genokolar said:
    1. The development of this Custom Recovery was done through email with Huawei so it may be lacking certain features, a full custom recovery will be released as soon as responds him
    2. This recovery will only flash from an external SD Card, internal SD card flash is not yet supported
    3. At the time of this Custom Recovery being posted, no third-party ROM has been released, therefore it has not been tested <- No longer the case
4.This recovery can be used to Root the EMUI ROMs released by Huawei
    5. When you need to flash back to the original ROM releases by Huawei, or receive OTA updates from Huawei, please flash back the original Recovery

*If the drivers do not install properly, please download the driver attached in this post and install it manually.

    Step 2: ROM Flashing
    1. Boot your phone into the new recovery. (either by starting the application again and selecting option 3, or press and hold the Power Button with Volumn Up)
    2. You will be greeted by the Custom Recovery Screen show below:
    recoveryo.jpg

    [*] Reboot system now

    [*] Select zip to flash/install

    [*] Wipe data

    [*] Wipe cache

    [*] Backup and restore

    [*] Flash memory/Format

    [*] Advanced setting

    [*] Turn off phone
    3. Scroll to select option 3 (Wipe data), confirm the wipe
    4. Scroll to select option 4 (Wipe cache), confirm the wipe as well

    [*] Install from external zip
    <-- Back to previous screen
    6. Scroll to and select option 4 (Install from external zip)
    7. Scroll to and select the zip file of the ROM which you have previously downloaded and placed into your external SD Card, confirm the flash
7.5. At this point, you can either flash in the gapps right away, or flash it after rebooting into the OS. I chose to flash it after booting into the OS for the first, but I don't think it will cause any problems. I will be posting the way I did it, and if you guys did it the other way, let us know if it worked or not

    *IMPORTANT NOTE*
When you're booting up your system out from Recovery, you will be asked whether or not you would want your ROM to auto update the recovery, shown below:
    updaterecovery.jpg

[*] Yes - Forbid Auto Update of Recovery

    [*] Cancel - Back
    <-- Return to previous
Please select the one being highlighted in the image, which is option 2 ([*] Cancel - Back). OR CONSEQUENCES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME!

    Step 3: Flashing GApps
    1. Boot into recovery
    2. Scroll to and select option 4 (Install from external zip)
    3. Scroll to and select the zip file of GApps you have downloaded "gapps-jb-20121011-signed.zip" or whatever you may have renamed it to, confirm the flash
    4. Reboot into OS
    5. *THE NOTE ABOVE STILL APPLIES, SO HERE IT IS AGAIN*

    Step 4: ALL DONE!
Congratulations, assuming everything was done properly, and everything worked out, now you will have Android 4.1.2 on your Huawei Ascend D1 Quad XL.

Images not showing up in your GooglePlay Store? YouTube not working?
Here is how our very own 12andy fixed the problem:

UPDATE: So using a clear hosts breaks the ability to connect to Facebook (via app and website). It's best to use AdAway, instead.

Nvana, it's the same process we've been using to flash the Chinese ROM(s), but with the added step of "fixing" the hosts file:
    • download SmartHosts from Goole Play (free)
    • tap on "Toggle hosts file" button
    • select "Clean hosts file"

And you're done! Rebooting wasn't necessary either, as the images started loading immediately.
