Going to add an update method i discovered.
Just need to connect red power and earth no data lines or resisters are necesary.
Put a on/off switch on the earth to cut it.
First apply power with earth connected..
When get the red x...
Simply dis connect the earth and re apply via your switch.
When its re applyd this forces AC Charge mode from having red x before...
Have tested this using both 2amps and 1/2amp @ 5 volts.
Method works on both...
Try it and let me know,it works on my 7.7 tab...

Excellent write up!

Works great on my GT 8.9 LTE with a NewTrent IMP60D battery.

Many many thanks!

If you cover the D+ D- with a piece of paper it'll do the trick

For the record, having the charger provide more than 2A isn't actually dangerous. The tablet should only draw what it needs.

Then again, the fact that Samsung did something this goofy means they could easily have it overdraw by assuming any charger that has this is 2.1A or less, so the advice is probably good either way. But iPad chargers which deliver 2.1A should be safe.
