Default Brightness for movies not bright enough

The majority of my movies are too dark to really see whats going on when its a darker scene, i feel like it should be able to be much brighter. Is there an app or something i can do to fix this? Brightness is already at max for system and in mx player... i am rooted but its been an issue prior to rooting as well... any help is appreciated.

Your question may be concerning black levels..and not necessarily brightness (luminance control.)
RGB black ranges 0 255 which is typical of these type displays where "shades" of black
are low threshold set than the video media standards which fall within a higher set 16 235 range.

The brightness setting can do little for this.
