I'm happy with the stock player too, although I don't listen to music on the phone that much. I did buy PowerAmp a couple of years ago, but haven't bothered to use it on the Note 2.
Here are a few more Android Media players to try, in case you feel the urge.

I've always used Poweramp because, as the other person said, my big problem with the stock player was the inability to choose folders. looks like we can now!

The one thing I hate about the stock player is that it doesn't have a lock screen widget. So I'll continue to use Google music
