If all this does is update the HBOOT, touchscreen in AOSP ROMs should be fine, since its not the HBOOT that causes incompatability, its the new touchscreen firmware image that is flashed that makes it no longer work.

I'm positive. Had the 2.41 radio before which is 0.20 and I flashed 3.17 and in bootloader the radio version is now 0.23.
I flashed in recovery btw. Doing it in h-boot gets you that failed message.
Well that's good to know.
