The XML isn't too bad once you understand it. What are you having trouble with?

I tried that and power button. Had to pull battery. I'll flash again and see if there is any difference.

I did this too. Another way is to reboot using the three finger salute ( pwr+vol up + vol down). This gets you back into recovery.

Can someone run find /sys -name brightness for me in recovery?

Timeout as it done now doesn't make any sense as it not only shuts out the screen but also stops the script!
