My ASUS PadFone 2 was with CWR and latest fw (10.4.12.14) Linderburg version which is Deodexed, Zipaligned and Rooted, it was running smooth and perfectly, however phone started to freeze sometimes for a few seconds, so I decided to do a reboot. After the reboot, phone hangs at the white ASUS logo during boot and stayed there for 15-20 minutes, until I decided to do another reboot by holding the power button for a few seconds. Finally tried to enter fastboot mode (PWR + Vol UP) and phone got black screen permanently.

Recently I got my SECOND ASUS Padfone 2 with the same issue. This one was on stock (unrooted) and latest firmware.

Finally the phone simple doesn't turn on, screen stays off, no recovery, no boot, nothing.. the only thing it happens is that device manager from windows 7 (64 bits) just recognizes it as QHSUSB_DLOAD device, as you can see below:

Googling about this error on the internet, I found that some of HTC devices already had this error: http://xdaforums.com/tags.php?tag=qhsusb_dload

ASUS already know about this error that phone cannot boot propertly, it's a know issue, and it has an official note about it on their (taiwan) website: http://www.asus.com/tw/News/IOkzw7fDcerZuFoJ

[Announcement] PadFone 2 consumer message

Recently there have been the small part PadFone 2 consumers use the situation can not boot, after thorough testing, we found that a small part of the compatibility problem PadFone 2 old software and memory (eMMC), although only a small part of the machine with this problem, but in order to enable consumers to experience the ease of use, Asus decided to comprehensive free replacement parts (ASUS update software) was in mid-February for consumers purchased on February 28. Please consumers on June 30 call 0800-093456, toll-free service appointment for you, once again thank you for your support and love Asus.

However my phone was bought on the first months of sales 14/Dec/2012 in Switzerland during a trip and currently I live in Brazil (Recife City), so I contacted ASUS Brazilian Support Center and they claim that as the phone was bought in Switzerland I should contact the support from there, but I don't have anyone who can support me there and also I don't speak french. They only give support to devices bought in Brazil from a official reseller.

I thought all of ASUS devices has Global Warranty for a periodo of 1 year. I was wrong!

Many sites of Android fans said something about this issue:

http://www.gsmarena.com/asus_offering_replacement_for_bricked_padfone_2-news-5752.php
"Thankfully, ASUS is well aware of this issue and they have released a statement confirming it. The issue seems to be with the firmware and the eMMC on the affected devices but ASUS will be replacing the affected devices. If you have one of the affected devices, you should contact your nearest ASUS service center immediately."

http://geeks9.com/asus-offering-replacement-for-bricked-padfone-2/
"The management was well aware of the situation at Asus, and they are the subject of the affected devices, and the affected users that was announced with the firmware and eMMC, came to take a statement from Asus allows you to listen to a good free alternative. If you are one of those affected, please contact your nearest ASUS support center as soon as possible."

http://www.androidosfan.com/news/asus-offers-replacement-for-bricked-padfone-2_232
"ASUS confirmed this problem and released a confirmation, promising to replace the affected devices.
If your device has been affected, you are advised to contact any ASUS service center right away to have your device replaced."

It was not only my device who got this problem, many people had it and related their problema on MoDaCo and PadfoneCub foruns.

For now, I've an almost dead device and don't have who can help me.

Do you have any ideas? All advices will be much appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I broke vibration motor and I decided to replace it myself, thus had to open the unit as a result of torn warranty sticker. It is unlikely that they will take it back. Vibration motor itself replaced by the fact that the warranty replacement have to wait for a month or two months

ASUS PadFone 2 Tech Specs

Until now the only way to revive this device is opening a RMA through ASUS Support Center. As my warranty was voided when I changed the LCD by myself (http://www.padfoneclub.com/pl/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?4727.0) because ASUS Brazilian Support Center didn't know how to do the handwork. Then they charge in $409,50 Euros to change the motherboard + Round Trip International Freight. So, the repair will cost more than the price of 2 brand new devices (LOL).

I'm looking for a Riff Box (JTAG) way to revive this device.

It is not clear to me what I can or should do when the device is recognized as "Qualcomm HS-UDB QDLoader 9008". I did not have the "QHSUSB_DLOAD" error, my padfone died and shows as Qualcomm HS-UDB QDLoader 9008. But what can be done from here?

If your device died and it didn't show QHSUSB_DLOAD, it means that you already have properly drivers installed and it now recognizes at "Qualcomm HS-UDB QDLoader 9008".

Until now, there is no solution to endusers. I guess, this tutorial (http://faq.riffbox.org/index.php?action=artikel&cat=10&id=53&artlang=en) works to revive Padfone 2 which is Processor APQ8064 with eMMC as boot memory, however as I don't have that Riff Box I don't know if it works or not. The unique sucessfully exit is sending the device to ASUS Tech Assistance and as some prople are saying they change whole motherboard.

For rooted users, these new mobo aren't beeing unlocked yet. Unlock.apk doesn't work.

That's all buddy. Thanks! :good:

I guess there is an easy way to fix this issue, however we need an working device to collect device's boot and system image memory areas.

Let me explain the steps:

1) Install QDloader drivers

2) Install the QPST (Qualcomm Product Support Tools) available at previous post from me.

3) Boot it into bootloader mode by pressing power+up.

4) Open QPST Configuration and check if you device is connected, if not click "Add New Port" untick the checkbox and select your phone on the list

5) Click on the menu Services and Open "QPST Downloader"

6) When QPST Downloader is opened, go to Backup Tab and do the backup, if successfull a QCN file will be created.

that's all!!! Easy right?!

Keep in mind that you'll be helping a lot of people from our community.

*IMPORTANT*
If you are going to do the backup to help me out, I'd suggest doing a full backup of your Padfone2 and current config, WIPE DATA AND CACHE, then doing the qualcomm QPST backup, this way your personal information doesn't come with the QPST-formatted image you send me.

After you're done with QPST, you can restore the original backup that you created and get all settings/data back with no fuss.

Do you know if is there any way to revive Padfone2 using some tools from QPST?

My device is recognized in Download mode from QPST Config.

Worth a try, needs to be used with brick fix hex uploader or qpst (easiest way of testing)
I dont know about signing, if asus have cpu to only accept signed loader then only a leak or jail break of that part would work.

darkspr1te

darkspr1te said it but I don't know what to do next...

I haven't seen anything related to apq8064 chipset. Darkspr1te was able to restore his msm8660 note, but that's it. You'd need the signed hex and mbn files to attempt the recovery.

The Padfone 2 from my neighbor now got the same issue right now. He was unrooted and on latest fw WWE 10.4.15.1. Phone starting to force close some apps, freezing for a few seconds, then after a reboot it hangs on ASUS White logo during loading and stayed there for half an hour. After another reboot, screen just stays in black.

When plugged on Win7 got the same code as my previous one.

IT'S UNBELIEVEABLE! And the worst thing is that ASUS Brasil says they can't repair the phone as it was bought outside Brazil (Switzerland) and we should get in contact with them directly. DAMN!

DEFINETLY I'LL NOT BUY ANY DEVICES FROM ASUS FROM NOW!
