i found the best way to unbrand is to get Advanced Configuration Tool, and PHM Registry editor, and have a good play around with read only settings etc.

i subscribe to foxtel so i left that tab, but deleted the entire start menu icon set. see the tips/tweaks thread for the methods to delete icons etc.

tip: mess with EVERYTHING before you get too attached, so when you end up factory resetting (hard power off, hold send, end and power... press volume up when prompted) you dont lose any important stuff.
Touch Pro 2 (new hotness)
Touch Diamond (rehomed)
HTC P3600 (RIP)
HP 6325 (RIP)

Dude

I checked out the Telstra TP2 last week in the flesh, absolutely hate the blue-ish interface and all the crap they load onto it.

There is also the ridiculous price of $1499 AUD...!!!!
(I hope you got a good deal)

Not sure about the branding issue, but be aware that your phone runs on a lower spec RAM (187mb) than advertised (288mb), essentially you are missing about 100mb - i checked it when i looked at it as i am too (Singpore Model).

The other thing is the Storage capacity is way off too.
I asked for an explanation of the 512mb ROM vs Storage vs RAM, but got met with typical Telstra product confusion - even asked HTC in Aust and they had no idea - am waiting for an answer from them.

Well worth a 'please explain' from the Telstra techs before you go into unbranding it or flashing it and invalidate your warranty.

ummmm, that 188 MB of RAM is the amount available to the user.
The 512MB is the total, the user gets two hundred and something available to the user.

Anyone know when we can buy online a Telstra HTC Touch pro2 to import in Canada/USA?

Actually, i don't think that is the case at all.
The specified RAM on the TP2 is 288mb - TOTAL
The specified ROM is 512mb - TOTAL

Disregard what is in use, i was talking 'totals' here.

The issues are the TP2 shows only 188mb of RAM in total (not 288)
and 277mb of 'total' Storage which is well away from the specified 512mb would you not agree..?

The reality is that the TP 2 shows only 188 of RAM, with 100+mb in use (for the OS + TFlo - which is a bloody lot!) with no apps running at all - this leaves less than 100mb to actually run apps and leaves the user with 'out of memory' issues if 2 large apps (like GPS and Photo Gallery are trying to run) - check yours by all means...

My TP2 often shows over 130mb in use - with no apps running at all - which leaves less that 60mb to run apps!! (There is an error somewhere with this device).

Unless i have the wrong end of the stick in my understanding (and i might!), this should be what we get - 512mb storage and 288mb RAM (each as totals).

Otherwise, why advertise a 512mb ROM and 288mb RAM, if noobs like me need to do the math to work out what we get for either.......?

Happy to be corrected.

I am currently looking at negrielectronics. It's expensive, but it looks just like the unbranded TP2 and I'm hoping I can replace the ROM with the standard one.
Chaos, panic and disorder.......... my work here is done.
