Default [GAPPS][4.4.x/4.3.x] OFFICIAL 0-Day PA-GOOGLE APPS (All ROM's) [2014-04-21]

WHAT WE OFFER
  • We consider these apps as important as our ROM. It is sad that the ROM scene deals with so many broken/outdated or buggy packages.
  • All packages should work fine on any custom Android 4.4.x or 4.3.x ROM (Make certain to select correct version).
  • All 4.4.x GApps packages and addons are compatible with both ART and Dalvik runtimes
  • 0-day Google Apps: We update as soon as Google releases new variants
  • All apps are untouched, we do not change or modify Googles' applications but deliver them as-is
  • Automatic Backup: It is not necessary to re-flash GApps or modules when you flash a ROM update. Most ROM's support this function.
  • If you use Paranoid Android, your updates come as automatic OTA's
  • We offer several variations from a Google Stock Package (based on what Google ships on Nexus devices) to smaller, more minimal packages.

JANUARY 23, 2014 - 20140123
  • Introduced a Micro Modular GApps Package. This package is designed for users of legacy devices with small system partitions or those who prefer a minimalistic approach. Check post #1 for full details.
  • All GApps packages have been updated with a new System Partition memory detection system to insure a successful installation and the ability to restore GApps and Addons after a ROM update. - thanks to @osm0sis for getting me started on the right track with scripting.
This new system is extremely accurate and works on both clean installs and GApps updates. It will leave a minimum of 10MB of free space in the system partition to allow for some ROM growth and still be able to restore GApps after a ROM update.
  • The GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.txtlog' to /sdcard/ upon installation. If you are having ANY issues with the installation of a GApps package, please post the contents of this file to help determine the cause of your issue.

    /sdcard/pa_gapps.txtlog contains the following information:
current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown, none, or 201Xxxxx)
current_gapps_type= Type of GApps package currently installed (unknown, none, stock, full, mini, or micro)
installing_gapps_version= Version of GApps being installed (2014xxxx)
installing_gapps_type= Type of GApps package being installed (stock, full, or mini)
total_system_size_kb= Total size of System partition (in Kbytes)
used_system_size_kb Current storage space used in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_system_size_kb= Free space currently available in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_space_reqd_kb= Free space required (in System Partition) to install GApps package (in Kbytes)
total_gapps_size_kb= Total size of GApps package being installed (in Kbytes)
install.faceunlock= Is FaceUnlock being installed (true or false)
install.photosphere= Is Photosphere Camera/Gallery being installed (true or false)
photosphere.device= Type of Photosphere Camera/Gallery neing installed (hammerhead, flo, deb, mako, manta, or tuna)
device_name= Device name (pulled from ro.product.device in build.prop)
Please note: While most users will find pa_gapps.txtlog located in the root of their SDCARD (/sdcard/), users of legacy devices and those with an external SDCard may have to search for its location.
  • All Addons have also been updated with a new System Partition memory detection system to ensure a successful installation and the ability to restore GApps and Addons after a ROM update.
If the installation of the Addon is NOT successful, the installer will copy a file named 'pa_addon.txt' to /sdcard/ after an installation failure. The contents of this file are similar to pa_gapps.txtlog above and should be posted to help troubleshoot any issues with your device.
  • Google Dialer Addon Module: No longer blocks installation on Paranoind Android ROM's
  • Photosphere Addon Module: Added the abilitity to force a Photosphere Camera/Gallery install on non-Nexus devices. See details in January 17 Google Stock GApps update for details on how to use (Details will also be added shortly to FAQ)

JANUARY 17, 2014 - 20140117
  • ========== All GApps Packages (Stock, Full, and Mini) Updates ==========
  • Reverted Google Play services to v4.0.33 (910055-38) from the Nexus 5 factory image. Change was made because it appears that Google may be going to device-specific (almost, anyway) versions of Google Play services. This change will force an automatic update to the latest (and proper) version for your device.
  • Chrome Browser updated to v32.0.1700.99 (NOT included in Mini GApps)
  • YouTube updated to v5.3.32
  • Installer now performs a System Partition memory check on a FRESH GApps installation (NOT a GApps update). Installer verifies that sufficient space exists in the system partition BEFORE beginning installation process
  • GApps installer generates a 'pa_gapps.txtlog' file on your SDCard to help troubleshoot any installation issues. This file contains the following information
See recent Change log for new implementation
  • If you are having an issue with a GApps install, please post the contents of this file.

=============== Google Stock GApps (Only) Updates ===============
  • Updated install-optional.sh script to properly install Galaxy Nexus panorama lib - thanks to @osm0sis for the report and fix
  • Fixed Photosphere camera issues on Nexus 10. Installer now uses Nexus 5 camera along with Nexus 10 libraries - thanks to @drewski_1 for the tip and testing
  • Added a new feature to force a Photosphere Camera/Gallery install on non-Nexus devices (thanks to the AOKP team for the inspiration).
To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.forcephotosphere'. Inside the file, type the name of the device for which you want the camera installed. Valid choices are:
hammerhead (to install Nexus 5 Camera/Gallery)
flo (or deb) (to install Nexus 7 (2013) Camera/Gallery)
manta (to install Nexus 10 Camera/Gallery)
mako (to install Nexus 4 Camera/Gallery)
tuna (to install Galaxy Nexus Camera/Gallery)
Please do not expect ANY support for problems that may arise if you use this feature
  • Added a new feature to suppress installation of the Photosphere Camera/Gallery on currently supported Nexus devices (thanks to the AOKP team for the inspiration).
To prevent installation of the Photosphere Camera/Gallery, place a file on your SDCard called '.forcenophotosphere'. The installer will detect its presence and bypass the Photosphere installation process.

================ Photosphere Addon Module Updates ================
  • Fixed Photosphere camera issues on Nexus 10. Installer now uses Nexus 5 camera along with Nexus 10 libraries - thanks to @drewski_1 for the tip and testing
  • Removed support for the Nexus 7 (2012) as it appears AOSP ROM's are not compatible with Camera/Gallery from the factory images

============== Chrome Browser Addon Module Updates ===============
  • Chrome Browser updated to v32.0.1700.99
  • Added routine to check for sufficient space in system partition as Chrome Browser requires almost 47MB of space to install

JANUARY 11, 2014 - 20140111a
  • GoogleDialer Addon: Fixed script derp (logic was reversed). Please note that the change to NOT install on Paranoid Android 4.x ROM's was made for upcoming releases of PA ROM's. If you have questions as to why this change was made, you will need to ask your ROM maintainer.

  • Keyboard Addon Module: Added libjni_latinime.so (from Factory Images) - probably should have been included all along

Arrow Common Questions & Answers (FAQ)

COMMON QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (FAQ)
  1. My install of Google Stock (or Full Modular) GApps failed with the message 'Insufficient storage space available in System partition'. What does this mean?
All GApps packages were recently updated with a new System Partition memory detection system to insure a successful installation and the ability to restore GApps after a ROM update.
As Google's applications have grown significantly over the past year (most apps by 40%+!), older devices may not have sufficient storage space availabe in the System Partition to install the Google Stock (or Full Modular) Gapps packages. This new detection system will accurately measure the amount of space available in the System Partition on your device and will abort installation, BEFORE any changes are made, allowing you to switch to a smaller GApps package before you experience any problems. It will also leave a minimum of 10MB of free space in the system partition to allow for some ROM growth and still be able to restore GApps after a ROM update.
The GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.txtlog' to /sdcard/ upon installation. You may review the contents of this file to help determine the cause of your issue.
    • /sdcard/pa_gapps.txtlog contains the following information:

current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown, none, or 201Xxxxx)
current_gapps_type= Type of GApps package currently installed (unknown, none, stock, full, mini, or micro)
installing_gapps_version= Version of GApps being installed (2014xxxx)
installing_gapps_type= Type of GApps package being installed (stock, full, mini, or micro)
total_system_size_kb= Total size of System partition (in Kbytes)
used_system_size_kb Current storage space used in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_system_size_kb= Free space currently available in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_space_reqd_kb= Free space required (in System Partition) to install GApps package (in Kbytes)
total_gapps_size_kb= Total size of GApps package (including options) being installed (in Kbytes)
install.chrome= Is Chrome Browser being installed (true or false)
install.faceunlock= Is FaceUnlock being installed (true or false)
install.photosphere= Is Photosphere Camera/Gallery being installed (true or false)
photosphere.device= Type of Photosphere Camera/Gallery being installed (none, hammerhead, flo, deb, mako, manta, or tuna)
replace.launcher= Is Stock/AOSP Launcher being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.mms= Is Stock/AOSP MMS App being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.browser= Is Stock/AOSP Browser being replaced/removed (true or false)
device_name= Device name (pulled from ro.product.device in build.prop)
NOTE: If free_system_size_kb is LESS THAN free_space_reqd_kb, the installer will abort BEFORE it makes any changes to your device.

If you would like further assistance, please post the contents of this file so we can better determine the cause of your issue and what options you should consider.

  2. How do I find the location of SDCard (/sdcard) on my device?
Most users will find this at the root of their internal SDCARD (/sdcard/). Users of legacy devices and those with an external SDCard may have to search for its location. The easiest way to find its location is to use a file manager and search for pa_gapps.txtlog from your most recent install of PA GApps. The folder that contains pa_gapps.txtlog is the folder you would also use for Advanced Installation options. Also, on many devices, '/data/media/0/' will also correlate to '/sdcard/'

  3. Google Play Games showed an update available immediately after installing the latest Google Stock (or Full-Modular) GApps. How come you don't include the latest version in GApps?
Beginning with version 1.5.x, Google began making Google Play Games somewhat device specific. In order to insure that you have the proper version for your device, the version of Google Play Games included in our GApps packages was reverted to v1.1.04 (794842-30) from the Nexus 5 factory image. This change means that you will now be offered an update from Google Play upon restarting your device after flashing Google Stock or Full-Modular GApps. If you don't have automatic updates turned on in the Play Store, you will neeed to update the app, manually, on your own.

  4. My Google Play services updated on its own immediately after updating GApps. How come you don't include the latest version in GApps?
Beginning somewhere around version 4.1.x, Google began making Google Play services somewhat device specific. In order to insure that you have the proper version for your device, the version of Google Play services included in our GApps packages was reverted to v4.0.33 (910055-38) from the Nexus 5 factory image. This change will force an automatic update to the latest (and proper) version for your device. (Note: This update will occurr silently - on its own, generally after rebooting your device.)

  5. I'm having problems with a GApps package. What information do you need to help me?
Without the following information your request will likely be ignored by the OP:
    1. GApps package you installed (Google Stock, Full Modular, Mini Modular, or Micro Modular)
    2. Date of the GApps package (201Xxxxx OR xxxx)
    3. Device type (Nexus 4, Mako, etc.)
    4. Current Runtime (ART or Dalvik)
    5. Contents of pa_gapps.txtlog or pa_addon.txtlog (found at /sdcard)
    6. The exact ROM you're using on your device (link REQUIRED)

  6. I'd like to switch from one GApps package to another. What do I need to do?
In order to switch GApps packages or remove an Addon Module you're no longer using, you will need to (from Recovery - In the order listed):
    1. Manually wipe your System partition
    2. Flash your ROM
    3. Flash GApps package
    4. Flash any Addon Modules (optional)
    5. Wipe the Dalvik & cache
    6. Reboot

You won't lose any of your data or application settings using this method. This method should also be used when switching to PA GApps from another GApps provider.

  7. The OP says that Google Stock (and Full Modular) GApps include Chrome Browser. However, after installation it's not installed. Why is that?
Chrome Browser is included in Google Stock (and Full Modular) GApps. However, if your device does not have sufficient space available in the system partition, the installer will bypass the installation of Chrome Browser when it's removal would allow the installation to complete instead of failing due to insufficient system partition space available. Feel free to install Chrome Browser from the Play Store.

  8. Is it necessary to reinstall GApps and/or addon modules EVERY time I update my ROM?
Probably not. If your ROM supports addon.d backup functionality (most ROM's do - including PA), it's not necessary to install GApps with each ROM update - as long as you don't manually wipe the System partition. The backup script will backup your installed GApps (or Addon modules) and restore them after your ROM has been updated. However, it is a good idea to install an updated GApps from time to time as functionality may be added or improvements made.

  9. What if an app is updated in the Play Store? Should I install the update or wait for a GApps update?
Go ahead and install the update. The next time you update GApps, Android automatically will remove the app you installed from the Play Store if the GApps version is the same or newer than the version you installed from the Play Store. Just be certain to wipe Dalvik and cache after flashing the updated GApps.

  10. Can I install an updated GApps package without updating my ROM?
Certainly! Simply install the GApps package directly from Recovery and wipe Dalvik and cache after flashing the updated GApps.

  11. I'm getting FC's with certain apps. How can I fix it?
The best way to deal with a random FC is simply to reboot your device. Letting your device settle for 10-15 minutes after installing GApps (especially if you're using ART) will also minimize this type of problem. You'll find FC's much more common if you're using the experimental ART runtime - plus ART is still not compatible with a number of apps. However, it's generally not a problem with the GApps package. Every single app in our packages come directly from Google and are never modified in any way.

  12. What does it mean that PA GApps are compatible with both ART and Dalvik?
Don't worry if you've never heard of ART. ART is the new, experimental Android RunTime that was introduced as a Developer Option in Android KitKat 4.4. Read HERE for more details. This change means no loss in functionality if you're not using ART, however if/when you want to give ART a try, you will be able to.

  13. How come you don't include {MyFavoriteApp} in PA GApps?
For an application to be included in PA GApps, it has to meet the following criteria:
    1. It must be a Google App (GApps = Google Apps.)
    2. It must be an application that comes standard on Google Nexus devices.
    3. It must be a globally used app (not language or country specific)

  14. Google Stock and Full Modular GApps are so big. Will I have any space left over for my stuff after I install?
PA GApps will use LESS of your device's available storage than using a 'bare bones' GApps and downloading the apps from the Play Store. This is because GApps are installed entirely in the System partition, leaving the Data (User) partition for your non-Google apps. Since the System partition is a fixed size, installing GApps here uses storage that would otherwise be left unused (and unavailable for other use).

  15. Why are the Google Stock and Full Modular GApps packages so big?
PA GApps are larger than other GApps packages for 3 reasons:
    1. We include all of the Google Apps that come standard on a Google Nexus device. Since our intention is to enhance the Google Android experience, we dont think it makes sense to limit the apps included in our GApps package.
    2. Google Stock GApps also includes the Photosphere Camera/Gallery for all supported Nexus Android 4.4 devices with a rear camera. Since the cameras are different for each device, that means our GApps has to include four separate cameras. Only the correct camera for your device is installed, however.
    3. The version of Google apps included in our packages are designed for today's higher resolution devices (XXHDPI and XXXHDPI) which makes them somewhat larger than the apps for lower resolution devices.

  16. There are a couple of apps I never use. Can I uninstall them?
You could uninstall them with an app like Titanium Backup but this can get messy, especially since many apps have associated libs (sharable libraries) that would still be left behind. Not only that, you'd have to repeat this process with every GApps update. The best way to handle this would be to freeze / disable the app. This will prevent the app from using valuable system resources and leaves the unused app lying dormant in the System partition where it's not using any of your available storage. Plus, the app will remain disabled even after you update GApps.

  17. How do I Freeze / Disable an app?
If you have Titanium Backup (highly recommended!) you can simply "Freeze" the app from the Backup/Restore screen. You can accomplish the same thing by going to Settings > Apps > {scroll to ALL} > {select app} > Disable.

  18. Can I use Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates into the ROM?
It is NOT recommended to use Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates into the ROM. The reason is, using Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates is going to be hit or miss, at best. That's because Titanium Backup does not integrate the supporting libraries (*.so files). Therefore, if an application update includes updated libraries, the integration will fail or fail to offer complete functionality. The reason it "seems" to work sometimes is that supporting libraries are often not updated when the application is updated. In those cases, the integration will work fine because the older libraries are the correct ones. If an application doesn't have supporting libraries, such as Play Store, YouTube, Maps, Gmail, Books, etc., then Titanium Backup integration works fine. However, our recommendation would be NOT to use Integration unless you're certain you won't have a shared library conflict.
