Default [GAPPS][4.4.x] OFFICIAL Up-to-Date PA-GOOGLE APPS (All ROM's) [2014-07-23]

WHAT WE OFFER
  • We consider these apps as important as our ROM. It is sad that the ROM scene deals with so many broken/outdated or buggy packages.
  • All packages should work fine on any custom Android 4.4.x or 4.3.x ROM (Make certain to select correct version).
  • All 4.4.x GApps packages and addons are compatible with both ART and Dalvik runtimes
  • Frequently updated Google Apps: Updates are posted weekly - generally on weekends
  • All apps are untouched, we do not change or modify Googles' applications but deliver them as-is
  • Automatic Backup: It is not necessary to re-flash GApps or modules when you flash a ROM update. Most ROM's support this function.
  • If you use Paranoid Android, your updates come as automatic OTA's
  • We offer several variations from a Google Stock Package (based on what Google ships on Nexus devices) to smaller, more minimal packages.

Arrow Common Questions & Answers (FAQ)

COMMON QUESTIONS & ANSWERS (FAQ)
  1. I'm having problems with Google Camera after installing Google Stock GApps (or GoogleCamera Addon). Please fix it!

While Google does say that Google Camera 'Works on phones and tablets running Android 4.4+ KitKat', they clearly didn't intend to include every 4.4.x ROM on XDA. They likely meant this to include devices running stock or factory versions of Android 4.4.x with proper drivers and kernels. In addition, Photo Sphere and Panorama require a gyro sensor and Photo Sphere, Panorama, and Lens Blur require at least 1 GB RAM.

While even legacy devices are able to run KitKat with a custom ROM, many KitKat ROM's do not have properly updated KitKat drivers and/or kernels. Instead, they're using modded, patched, or hacked versions of older drivers and kernels. It's likely these situations that lead to problems and/or incompatibilities with Google's new camera app. This means that there's NOTHING the OP can do to fix this problem for you. Your only likely option is to NOT use the new Google Camera on your device.

To help make this easier for users who prefer to continue using our Google Stock GApps package without the Google Camera, we have added a new advanced option to bypass the installation of Google Camera on your device. See Advanced Features #1 for complete details on how to install Google Stock GApps without Google Camera.

  2. I'm getting constant FC errors with Google Keyboard. What can I do to fix this problem?

This problem is most commonly experienced when flashing Google Stock GApps or the Google Keyboard Addon without doing a 'Clean' install (i.e. Factory Reset (Data wipe) + System wipe).
Sometimes the problem can be fixed by wiping Data and cache for the app (under Settings > Apps). However, a 'Clean' install may be necessary to completely remedy the problem.

A 'Clean' install consists of the following:
    1. Factory Reset (or manually wipe (format) Data partition - Internal Storage wipe is NOT necessary)
    2. Manually wipe (format) your System partition
    3. Flash your ROM
    4. Flash GApps package
    5. Flash any Addon Modules (optional)
    6. Wipe the Dalvik & cache
    7. Reboot

NOTE: YOU WILL LOSE ALL OF YOUR DATA AND APPLICATION SETTINGS using this method. Be sure to do a nandroid backup prior in case you want to restore later.

  3. My install of Google Stock (or Full Modular) GApps failed with the message 'Insufficient storage space available in System partition'. What does this mean?

All GApps package installers employ a System Partition memory detection system to insure a successful installation and the ability to restore GApps after a ROM update.
As Google's applications have grown significantly over the past year (most apps by 40%+!), older devices may not have sufficient storage space availabe in the System Partition to install the Google Stock (or Full Modular) Gapps packages. The installer will accurately measure the amount of space available in the System Partition on your device and will abort installation, BEFORE any changes are made, allowing you to switch to a smaller GApps package before you experience any problems. It will also guarantee a minimum of 10MB of free space in the system partition to allow for some ROM growth and still be able to restore GApps after a ROM update. (READ HERE for a complete explanation of the Android File System Structure.)

The GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.log' to /sdcard/ upon installation. You may review the contents of this file to help determine the cause of your issue.
    • /sdcard/pa_gapps.log contains the following information:
current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown, none, or 2014xxxx)
current_gapps_type= Type of GApps package currently installed (unknown, none, stock, full, mini, or micro)
installing_gapps_version= Version of GApps being installed (2014xxxx)
installing_gapps_type= Type of GApps package being installed (stock, full, mini, or micro)
total_system_size_kb= Total size of System partition (in Kbytes)
used_system_size_kb Current storage space used in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_system_size_kb= Free space currently available in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_space_reqd_kb= Free space required (in System Partition) to install GApps package (in Kbytes)
total_gapps_size_kb= Total size of GApps package (including options) being installed (in Kbytes)
install.chrome= Is Chrome Browser being installed (true or false)
install.faceunlock= Is FaceUnlock being installed (true or false)
install.camera= Is Google Camera being installed (true or false)
install.gallery= Is Google Gallery being installed (true or false)
gallery.device= Device type of Google Gallery being installed (none, hammerhead, flo, deb, mako, manta, or tuna)
replace.launcher= Is Stock/AOSP Launcher being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.mms= Is Stock/AOSP MMS App being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.browser= Is Stock/AOSP Browser being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.picotts= Is Stock/AOSP Pico TTS being replaced/removed (true or false)
device_name= Device name (pulled from ro.product.device in build.prop)
NOTE: If free_system_size_kb is LESS THAN free_space_reqd_kb, the installer will abort BEFORE it makes any changes to your device.

If you would like further assistance, please post the contents of this file so we can better determine the cause of your issue and what options you may want to consider.

  4. How do I find the location of SDCard (/sdcard) on my device?

Most users will find this at the root of their internal SDCARD (/sdcard/). Also, on many devices, '/data/media/' or '/data/media/0/' will also correlate (symlink) to '/sdcard/'. Users of legacy devices and those with an external SDCard may have to search for its location. The easiest way to find its location is to use a file manager and search for pa_gapps.log from your most recent install of PA GApps. The folder that contains pa_gapps.log is the folder you would also use for Advanced Installation options.

  5. I'm having problems with a GApps package. What information do you need to help me?

Without the following information your request will likely be ignored by the OP:
    1. GApps package you installed (Google Stock, Full Modular, Mini Modular, or Micro Modular)
    2. Date of the GApps package (201Xxxxx OR xxxx)
    3. Device type (Nexus 4, Mako, etc.)
    4. Current Runtime (ART or Dalvik)
    5. Contents of pa_gapps.log or pa_addon.log (found at /sdcard)
    6. The exact ROM you're using on your device (link to ROM zip REQUIRED)

  6. I'd like to switch GApps packages or change my package install options. What do I need to do?

In order to switch GApps packages, change installation options, or remove an Addon Module you're no longer using, you will need to (from Recovery - In the order listed):
    1. Manually wipe (format) your System partition
    2. Flash your ROM
    3. Flash GApps package
    4. Flash any Addon Modules (optional)
    5. Wipe the Dalvik & cache
    6. Reboot

NOTE: You won't lose any of your data or application settings using this method. This method should also be used when switching to PA GApps from another GApps provider.

  7. My Google Play services updated on its own immediately after updating GApps. How come you don't include the latest version in GApps?

Beginning somewhere around version 4.1.x, Google began making Google Play services somewhat device specific. In order to insure that you have the proper version for your device, the version of Google Play services included in our GApps packages is the current Universal ppi version (-030). This will allow you to properly configure your system after a clean install and will force an automatic update to the latest (and proper) version for your device (if needed).

UPDATE: We have recently introduced PlayServices/Games Updater. Find out more HERE

  8. Google Play Games showed an update available immediately after installing the latest Google Stock (or Full-Modular) GApps. How come you don't include the latest version in GApps?

Beginning with version 1.5.x, Google began making Google Play Games somewhat device specific. In order to insure that you have the proper version for your device, the version of Google Play Games included in our GApps packages was reverted to v1.1.04 (794842-30) from the Nexus 5 factory image. This change means that you will now be offered an update from Google Play upon restarting your device after flashing Google Stock or Full-Modular GApps.

UPDATE: We have recently introduced PlayServices/Games Updater. Find out more HERE

  9. I received a 'Status 6 Error' while installing PlayServices/Games Updater using CWM. What does this mean?

It likely means you're using CWM v6.0.4.7 Recovery, which is NOT compatible with PlayServices/Games Updater (or the upcoming new GApps packages). If you update your recovery to a newer version of CWM (older versions should also work fine), you will be able to successfully install any of our GApps packages.

The problem is due to CWM v6.0.4.7 overwriting the installation script, thereby making it impossible for the installer to do its work. Thanksfully, CWM realized the error in doing this and fixed the issue in newer versions. This 'bug' is only found in CWM v6.0.4.7, so even an older version should work, although upgrading your Recovery would be preferable to downgrading.

  10. Is it necessary to reinstall GApps and/or addon modules EVERY time I update my ROM?

Probably not. If your ROM supports addon.d backup functionality (most ROM's do - including PA), it's not necessary to install GApps with each ROM update - as long as you don't manually wipe the System partition. The backup script will backup your installed GApps (or Addon modules) and restore them after your ROM has been updated. However, it is a good idea to install an updated GApps from time to time as functionality may be added or improvements made.

  11. What if an app is updated in the Play Store? Should I install the update or wait for a GApps update?

Go ahead and install the update. The next time you update GApps, Android automatically will remove the app you installed from the Play Store if the GApps version is the same or newer than the version you installed from the Play Store. Just be certain to wipe Dalvik and cache after flashing the updated GApps.

  12. Can I install an updated GApps package without updating my ROM?

Certainly! Simply install the GApps package directly from Recovery and wipe Dalvik and cache after flashing the updated GApps.

  13. The OP says that Google Stock (and Full Modular) GApps include Chrome Browser. However, after installation it's not installed. Why is that?

Chrome Browser is included in Google Stock (and Full Modular) GApps. However, if your device does not have sufficient space available in the system partition, the installer will bypass the installation of Chrome Browser when it's removal would allow the installation to complete instead of failing due to insufficient system partition space available. Feel free to install Chrome Browser from the Play Store.

  14. What does it mean that PA GApps are compatible with both ART and Dalvik?

Don't worry if you've never heard of ART. ART is the new, experimental Android RunTime that was introduced as a Developer Option in Android KitKat 4.4. Read HERE for more details. This change means no loss in functionality if you're not using ART, however if/when you want to give ART a try, you will be able to.

  15. How come you don't include {MyFavoriteApp} in PA GApps?

For an application to be included in PA GApps, it has to meet the following criteria:
    1. It must be a Google App (GApps = Google Apps.)
    2. It must be an application that comes standard on Google Nexus devices.
    3. It must be a globally used app (not language or country specific)

  16. Google Stock and Full Modular GApps are so big. Will I have any space left over for my stuff after I install?

PA GApps will use LESS of your device's available storage than using a 'bare bones' GApps and downloading the apps from the Play Store. This is because GApps are installed entirely in the System partition, leaving the Data (User) partition for your non-Google apps. Since the System partition is a fixed size, installing GApps here uses storage that would otherwise be left unused (and unavailable for other use).

  17. Why are the Google Stock and Full Modular GApps packages so big?

PA GApps are larger than other GApps packages for 3 reasons:
    1. We include all of the Google Apps that come standard on a Google Nexus device. Since our intention is to enhance the Google Android experience, we dont think it makes sense to limit the apps included in our GApps package.
    2. Google Stock GApps also includes Google Camera as well as Google Gallery for all supported Nexus Android 4.4 devices with a rear camera. Since Google Gallery is different for each device, that means our GApps has to include four separate Galleries. Only the correct Gallery for your device is installed, however.
    3. The version of Google apps included in our packages are designed for today's higher resolution devices (XXHDPI and XXXHDPI) which makes them somewhat larger than the apps for lower resolution devices.

  18. There are a couple of apps I never use. Can I uninstall them?

You could uninstall them with an app like Titanium Backup but this can get messy, especially since many apps have associated libs (sharable libraries) that would still be left behind. Not only that, you'd have to repeat this process with every GApps update. The best way to handle this would be to freeze / disable the app. This will prevent the app from using valuable system resources and leaves the unused app lying dormant in the System partition where it's not using any of your available storage. Plus, the app will remain disabled even after you update GApps.

  19. How do I Freeze / Disable an app?

If you have Titanium Backup (highly recommended!) you can simply "Freeze" the app from the Backup/Restore screen. You can accomplish the same thing by going to Settings > Apps > {scroll to ALL} > {select app} > Disable.

  20. Can I use Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates into the ROM?

It is NOT recommended to use Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates into the ROM. The reason is, using Titanium Backup to integrate GApps updates is going to be hit or miss, at best. That's because Titanium Backup does not integrate the supporting libraries (*.so files). Therefore, if an application update includes updated libraries, the integration will fail or fail to offer complete functionality. The reason it "seems" to work sometimes is that supporting libraries are often not updated when the application is updated. In those cases, the integration will work fine because the older libraries are the correct ones. If an application doesn't have supporting libraries then Titanium Backup integration works fine. However, our recommendation is to NOT use Integration.

Info 2 GOOGLE STOCK GAPPS - Advanced Features & Options

GOOGLE STOCK GAPPS
Advanced Features & Options

The Advanced Features & Options below are are intended to modify and/or explain the default installation of the Google Stock GApps installer.
Use of these advanced options is completely optional and only recommended if you desire to change the default behavior of the GApps installer as outlined in post #1 above.

  1. To PREVENT the installation of Google Camera on your device, follow the procedures below:

To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.forcenocamera '. The installer will detect its presence and bypass the Google Camera installation process.

Note: The existing Camera app from your ROM will also be untouched

  2. To PREVENT the removal of the stock/AOSP Launcher, MMS App, Browser, or Pico TTS, follow the procedures below:

To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.gapps-stock '. Inside the file, type the name of the Stock/AOSP app(s) you wish to keep during installation. Valid options are:
launcher (to prevent removal of Stock/AOSP Launcher)
mms (to prevent removal of Stock/AOSP MMS App)
browser (to prevent removal of Stock/AOSP Browser)
pico (to prevent removal of Stock/AOSP Pico TTS)
Note: Case, order, spaces, or using separate lines does not matter.

  3. To PREVENT the installation of Google Gallery on your Nexus device, follow the procedures below:

To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.forcenogallery '. The installer will detect its presence and bypass the Google Gallery installation process.

Note: The existing Gallery app from your ROM (if included) will remain untouched

  4. To FORCE the installation of Google Gallery on your non-Nexus device, follow the procedures below:

To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.forcegallery '. Inside the file, type the name of the Nexus device for which you want the Google Gallery installed. Valid options are:
    hammerhead (for the Nexus 5)
flo or deb (for the Nexus 7 2013)
    mako (for the Nexus 4)
    manta (for the Nexus 10)
    tuna (for the Galaxy Nexus)
Note: Use only one device name (case does not matter).

  5. The installer may bypass the installation of Chrome Browser on your device if there is insufficient space available in your system partition.
For a complete explanation, see below:

While this will generally not be an issue for current generation devices, many older devices with smaller system partitions may not have sufficient space available to install a large ROM and our Google Stock GApps. With Google's applications growing ever larger (most have grown 40%+ in the past year), there may come a point when your device will no longer be able to complete the installation of Google Stock GApps due to insufficient space available in your system partition (READ HERE for a complete explanation of the Android File System Structure.)

Since Chrome Browser is the largest application in Google Stock GApps (at almost 46MB), the installer will bypass its installation if doing so will allow the install to properly complete. At the end of the installation process, the GApps installer will inform you that Chrome Browser was not installed and will recommend that you install from the Play Store instead.

Note: In cases where Chrome Browser is not installed due to space limitations on your device, the installer will also add 'Browser' to an existing '/sdcard/.gapps-stock' - or create the file if it doesn't exist - to prevent the removal of the Stock/AOSP browser during the addon.d restore process. (See Advanced Option #2 above for further details).

  6. All of our GApps packages use an advanced System Partition memory detection system to insure a successful installation.
Upon completion, the GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.log' to /sdcard/. For complete details see below:

Many older devices may not have sufficient storage space availabe in the System Partition to install the Google Stock GApps package. Our GApps installer will accurately measure the amount of space available in the System Partition on your device and, if necessary, will abort installation BEFORE any changes are made - allowing you to switch to a smaller GApps package. It will also guarantee a minimum of 10MB of free space in the system partition to allow for some ROM growth and still be able to restore GApps after a ROM update. READ HERE for a complete explanation of the Android File System Structure.

The GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.log' to /sdcard/ upon completion. You may review or share the contents of this file if you experience any problems during the installation process. /sdcard/pa_gapps.log contains the following information:
current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown, none, or 2014xxxx)

Info 2 MICRO MODULAR GAPPS - Advanced Features & Options

MICRO MODULAR GAPPS
Advanced Features & Options

The Advanced Features & Options below are are intended to modify and/or explain the default installation of the Micro Modular GApps installer.
Use of these advanced options is completely optional and only recommended if you desire to change the default behavior of the GApps installer as outlined in post #1 above.

  1. To FORCE the removal of the stock/AOSP Launcher or Pico TTS during GApps installation, follow the procedures below:

To use this feature, place a file in /sdcard/ called '.gapps-modular '. Inside the file, type the name of the Stock/AOSP app(s) you wish to REMOVE during installation. Valid options are:
launcher (to remove the Stock/AOSP Launcher)
pico (to remove the Stock/AOSP Pico TTS)
    Note: Case does not matter.

  2. All of our GApps packages use an advanced System Partition memory detection system to insure a successful installation.
Upon completion, the GApps installer will copy a file named 'pa_gapps.log' to /sdcard/. For complete details see below:

While most every device should be able to install the Micro GApps package without problems, some ancient, legacy devices may not have sufficient storage space availabe in the System Partition to install the Micro Modular GApps package. Our GApps installer will accurately measure the amount of space available in the System Partition on your device and, if necessary, will abort installation BEFORE any changes are made.

/sdcard/pa_gapps.log contains the following information:
current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown, none, or 2014xxxx)
current_gapps_type= Type of GApps package currently installed (unknown, none, stock, full, mini, or micro)
installing_gapps_version= Version of GApps being installed (2014xxxx)
installing_gapps_type= Type of GApps package being installed (stock, full, mini, or micro)
total_system_size_kb= Total size of System partition (in Kbytes)
used_system_size_kb Current storage space used in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_system_size_kb= Free space currently available in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_space_reqd_kb= Free space required (in System Partition) to install GApps package (in Kbytes)
total_gapps_size_kb= Total size of GApps package (including options) being installed (in Kbytes)
install.chrome= Is Chrome Browser being installed (true or false)
install.faceunlock= Is FaceUnlock being installed (true or false)
install.camera= Is Google Camera being installed (true or false)
install.gallery= Is Google Gallery being installed (true or false)
gallery.device= Device type of Google Gallery being installed (none, hammerhead, flo, deb, mako, manta, or tuna)
replace.launcher= Is Stock/AOSP Launcher being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.mms= Is Stock/AOSP MMS App being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.browser= Is Stock/AOSP Browser being replaced/removed (true or false)
replace.picotts= Is Stock/AOSP Pico TTS being replaced/removed (true or false)
device_name= Device name (pulled from ro.product.device in build.prop)
NOTE: If free_system_size_kb is LESS THAN free_space_reqd_kb, the installer will abort BEFORE it makes any changes to your device.

If you would like assistance with any problems, please post the contents of this file so we can better determine the cause of your issue and what options you should consider.

Arrow GAPPS REMOVER: Advanced Application Remover

PA GAPPS REMOVER

GApps Remover: Advanced Application Remover (20140723)
------------ For Experienced Users ONLY ------------

While the long term plan is to integrate integrate this functionality into the GApps installers, I am making it available early as a stand-alone installer. GApps Remover is designed to remove unwanted GApps/apps from your device and/or GApps package. While it can be flashed AFTER you've installed a GApps package (and rebooted), the preferred method would be to install immediately after flashing your GApps package (before rebooting). Flashing immediately after you install your GApps package means the application never even gets installed on your device.

GApps Remover is extremely small (currently less than 7KB) and will remove the application(s) and modify the addon.d backup script to prevent the app from being backed up in the future. The apk and ALL supporting libraries are completely removed from your System Partition, ensuring a "Clean Uninstall". Also, for the supported Stock/AOSP applications, the backup script will automatically prevent the application from being re-installed when installing a ROM update. This will happen automatically during the GApps restore process. GApps Remover, however, will NOT remove the app if it is installed in your Data partition - so if you've updated an app from the Play Store you may also have to remove the update using standard Android methods.

Please Note: "Protection from Stupidity" is NOT built into GApps Remover. This means you have the ability to do something stupid like remove Hangouts (and leave yourself with no method to retrieve SMS messages) or remove the Google Now Launcher, leaving yourself with NO launcher (i.e. no way to use your device). Please be certain and THINK THROUGH your removals to ensure you don't do something stupid.

Because Google is constantly updating their applications, you must use the version of GApps Remover that corresponds to the GApps package you have installed (or plan to install) on your device. This particular update will only work with the current versions of PA GApps, but will not work with past or future versions of PA GApps.

To use GApps Remover, place a file called '.gapps-remove ' in the same folder as the GApps Remover Zip or in /sdcard/ (same folder as the GApps Remover Zip has priority). Inside the file, type the name of the application you want to remove from your device

Arrow Play services / play games updater

PLAY SERVICES / PLAY GAMES UPDATER

Updates Google Play Services to v5.0.84 (1259630-03x)
and Google Play Games to v2.0.11 (1269547-03x)

While the long-term plan is to incorporate this feature into the GApps installers, I am making it available early as a stand-alone installer. Using updated scripting techniques from the new upcoming GApps packages, I have created a flashable zip that will update Google Play services and Google Play Games (only if installed) to the latest, proper version for your device. You can flash this on all 4.4.x GApps packages.

After flashing, the installer will copy a file (pa_update.log) to the same folder as the zip ¹. You may review or share the contents of this file if you experience any problems or have any questions. pa_update.log contains the following information:

Installer_Version= Current version of the installer (2014xxxx)
current_gapps_version= Version of GApps currently installed (unknown or 2014xxxx)
current_gapps_type= Type of GApps package currently installed (unknown, stock, full, mini, or micro)
total_system_size_kb= Total size of System partition (in Kbytes)
used_system_size_kb= Current storage space used in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_system_size_kb= Free space currently available in System Partition (in Kbytes)
free_space_reqd_kb= Free space required (in System Partition) to install this update (in Kbytes)
display_density_used= Display density of your device as determined by the installer (xxxppi)
device_type= Device type (pulled from ro.product.device in build.prop)
device_model= Device model (pulled from ro.product.model in build.prop)
getprop_density= Display density of your device as determined by getprop command in recovery (xxx)
default.prop_density= Display density of your device as shown in /default.prop (xxx)
build.prop_density= Display density of your device a shown in /system/build.prop (xxx)
GMSCore_version=Version of Google Play Services installed by installer (complete version number)
PlayGames_version=Version of Google Play Games installed by installer (complete version number OR not_installed)
NOTE: If free_system_size_kb is LESS THAN free_space_reqd_kb, the installer will abort BEFORE it makes any changes to your device.
¹ ALSO NOTE: If you sideload the zip from Recovery you will likely find 'pa_update.log' in /sdcard

If you would like assistance with any problems, please post the contents of this file so we can better determine the cause of your issue and what options to consider.
A HUGE "Thank You" to @osm0sis for making this possible. From the scripting technique to the new, updated methods of signing the zip, none of this would have been possible without his assistance. Thanks, also to @Chainfire for first discovering this new method of flashing zips and making the source code available to properly sign this new style of installer.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are using CWM versions 6.0.4.7 it is highly recommended to update to a newer version or a different recovery. Version 6.0.4.7 (ONLY) is NOT compatible with PlayServices/Games Updater and will also NOT be compatible with upcoming versions of PA GApps.
