Sensibly integrated, it's a useful feature anyway. Google Maps, for example, could be made to automatically rotate the map so that you're looking in the same direction along the map as you are along the ground. (I've no idea if Google Maps actually does this, but in principle it could). That's quite handy if you're trying to navigate through a bit of countryside with no street names.

That's fair enough. I'm a city man myself (or at least I am right now).

yeah as I said earlier...

I've not had a reply from the guy who claims he has one, when i asked what version of the rom he has, as he can't see the app..

but the latest 2 rom version have a totally new, not seen before, NOT test app digital compass..
This is written in LUA..
Its new, it's not something that's been on other devices.

alas it doesn't seem to work on existing hardware (I've not got a leo to test with).

What the app does is allow you set a destination, then the compass points in that direction, based on where you are and your heading..
this is as far as I've gleaned from playing with it..

the odd thing is I dont think it's based on accelerometer, as it will pick up your position pretty well.. it just doesn't move, so I guess it needs the hardware in the LEO, the distance to destination does work however.. So I guess i could play a long range version of blind mans bluff with it :P

This is what it looks like on my own rom on the HD

Surely that could just be interpolated from GPS position, though? Doesn't really confirm a digital compass, since a GPS program can do the same thing based on the difference in your position over time.

Just a few days ago events come thick and fast, every day another news about leo.

Now there is standstill, no new news and why? I guess we know nearly everything about this device, so pls HTC give us an official statement!!!

I think they let the cat out of the bag on the 6th of october when 6.5 will be launched

I wont be unhappy if they do it earlier ))

This is just offtopic, sry ^^

This waiting is tremendous

I'm still pretty hopeful it will, though. Microsoft released minimum specs for a WM7 phone, digital compass was one of them. The Leo hits all the specs, confirmed, apart from the digital compass. HTC would have known the WM7 specs long before Microsoft released them. Perhaps B3ler3fonte can download this app and install it on his Leo and let us know for sure!
Are you sure it hits all the specs? There are two that I find dubious at best
  • Memory: 256MB+ DRAM, 1G+ Flash (at least 512MB fast flash - 5MB/s unbuffered read @4K block size)

Leo seems to have 256MB+ yes, but only 512MB internal flash, not the required 1G+, and I have no idea if those 512 MB are fast enough. If that flash is fast enough, then it might be OK provided extra memory on microSD card can be counted towards the required 1G+.
  • Battery: Sufficient to meet Days of Use LTK requirements.

What are the Days of Use LTK requirements? Does anyone know? I'm not sure Leo will measure up to this though. The battery times I've seen for Leo seems OK, but I doubt it's enough for the WinMo7 requirements.

yeh i am worried about the batterys specifications as well.
And i have the same question about the LTK requirements, i couldn't find anything about it.

B3ler3fonte could you please tell more about the battery life?

Thanks you for the information you've posted.

This concerns me a little as well - although full screen video etc has been tested and seems to work fine. Perhaps it is due to the test device using beta software..?
