Default Fresh start SK17i

Hi guys, I want to make a fresh start with my SK17i, with a custom rom, so there aren't any apps installed on my phone. I'd like to install just the apps I want, without the need for tetris demo, that huge pdf reader app and similar.

I tried searching for the custom roms here on forum, but I'm a newbie to this kind of things so I don't know what to search for exactly. If anyone can point me to the post that makes fresh installation of my phone without much/any apps, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Hello marin777,

As you said you wanted to make a fresh start by installing a custom rom and in order to do so, you have to do several things before installing any rom.

NOTE: Backup all of your important data first and carefully follow every instructions.

1- Unlock the bootloader of your device.

Instructions to unlock the bootloader of your device can be found in link below:

(Official Way)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1527159

OR

(Using Fastboot)
First get your boot loader unlock key from here and save it.
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/

then follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1971363

2- Root your device.

You can read all about rooting here:
http://lifehacker.com/5789397/the-al...-android-phone

There are several methods to root your device, an easy one is using Cydia Impactor (Tested on my SK17i)

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2399464

3- Install a custom rom of your choice.

As this is your first time installing a custom rom, you should download a stable one from CyanogenMod's site.
Current stable version is 9.1.0 (ICS)

http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?dev...go&type=stable
and
Google apps for ICS (CM 9.x.x):
http://goo.im/gapps

Then head over to the 1. Unlocked Bootloader and follow the instructions.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1879982

Your device should have a custom rom installed now.

Enjoy...

Thank you very much, I'll give it a go now and tell how it went afterwards!

EDIT:

Apparently I'm stucked on the first step, in my service info it says: "Bootloader unlock allowed: No"

Does this mean I cannot do any of the stuff mentioned above?

In that case try this method, it will root your device even if the bootlocker is locked.

After rooting move to the 3'rd step in the above post and head over to the "2. Locked Bootloader" section.

Well, I did everything according to the tutorials and got to the final stage where I need to flash my custom rom, but I get this problem:

Quote:
Installing: /sdcard/cm9.1.0-mango.zip
Finding update package
Opening update package
Installing update
assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "SK17i" | | getprop ("ro.build.product") == "SK17i" | | getprop ("ro.product.device") == "SK17a" | | getprop ("ro.build.product") == "SK17a" | | getprop ("ro.product.device") == "mango" | | getprop ("ro.build.product") == "mango"
E:Error in /sdcard/cm-9.1.0-mango.zip
(Status 7)
Is this because I have "Locked Bootloader" and CyanogenMod isn't meant for it (if so, could you tell me some other rom that is made for locked bootloader?), or am I doing other things wrong?

This is because you wiped /system, you'll get the getprop error then if it's defined in the installation script

But you can forget about cyanogenmod on locked bootloader, it won't boot and you'll be stuck in a bootloop and you have to flash the stock rom to solve it then. So better don't try it

You can just check development section and search for gingerbread and ics roms for locked bootloader, as these are the only android versions you are able to use on locked bootloader

For any further questions just ask, but please don't ask for the best rom then as it's not permitted here :P

Yes it is the locked bootloader which is causing trouble but you can still try a few roms which will work even on locked bootloader:
