Default Wifi and Data Always On

I recently got AT&T S2 and I noticed that "4G" icon is always there even when I'm connected to Wifi and my data is also being used. Is there a way to check which application is causing this and how can I get rid of this? I have to keep data turned off otherwise it just eats it up (even when connected to Wifi). I'm running stock 4.1.2.

The application Better Battery Stats, which you can get free on XDA, will tell you what is using your battery. You should review the Known identified battery drainers thread in the General forum.

When you are in a low signal area, with data turned on the phone will always be searching for a signal, which uses extra battery.
