Default problems flashing recovery

My device is rooted, and I am running a (slightly) older TWRP recovery and I am having some problems upgrading.

I have tried using goo.manager, which gets to "your download is now starting..." and stops.

I them tried TWRP manager which does download the image correctly, but when it goes to flash it I get some warning I have never seen about verifying the partition listed below (/dev/block/mmcblk0p21 or something). It says it flashes successfull but when I boot to recovery I still have the older ROM.

I then tried flashing with Odin, but got an AUTH failure.

I then gave up on TWRP, and tried clockwork recovery from ROM manager, again claims it flashed successfully but old recovery still boots.

Any ideas?

Is it possible I am back on locked bootloader (it says something like current binary: samsung official, system status: official

Will do. Oddly my device appears to be on the latest tarp, not sure exactly what happened. I know the device did reboot, and hung a few times in reboot.
