Default Will ROM prevent the functionality??

Hi-
I have spent hours scouring through this thread and others regarding SIP & VOIP. I have a Tmobile HTC Touch Pro 2. I followed the steps in this thread and used the SIP Config Tool. I get a status of "No Service".

Oddly, the only time I see it "Searching" is as soon as I plug the TP2 into the USB cable to connect to my laptop... but then, "No Service".

My SIP server shows no traffic to the server (I am testing over WiFi to start).

I have opened port 5060 on the TP2.

I am unclear on how the OS stored in ROM is used: Is the OS "running" from the ROM; or... when we hard reset, does it copy the OS from ROM to (maybe) NAND memory - so that now we can update / modify the OS in NAND memory?

My primary question: To what extent can a provider (e.g. T-mobile) remove functionality from a windows mobile phone so that it CANNOT be put back without flashing with a different ROM? By this, I mean: is there stuff that they can remove from the ROM that even if we add back (like we are doing in this thread), the ROM / phone will STILL not support VOIP?

With Regards - and a Happy Halloween!
Sam

PS - OH! Are there any Tmobile TP2 users out there that have gotten VOIP / SIP to work??

I too am a TMobile TP2 user who is trying to get this setup correctly. Would love to get some instruction from someone who has gone through this on the TMob TP2.

Thanks!

I got it working with the following setup:

Stock ROM, Win 6.1
Fring (Add SIP Gizmo; Enable Earpiece)
iDialer
iContact
iDialer Config
Green Button
Don't Sleep Wifi

Sound comes through the earpiece (surprisingly), but I can't get Fring to display a Contact name instead of the 1112223333@ip.add.re.ss, with the 1112223333 being the number of the caller.

One other peculiarity is that if I dial a Google Voice number, the Caller audio will drop when the receiving phone starts to ring. When the receiving phone picks up, they can hear the Caller, but the Caller can't hear anything.

I used these instructions which mostly worked: http://www.fromthefencepost.com/2009...tc-tilt-2-att/

I also tried substituting Nimbuzz for Fring and that worked, but Nimbuzz didn't seem to be as consistent at responding to incoming calls.

Hi,

It's impossible to see this option on OmniaII, as the Phone settings GUI is the one Samsung provides.

Does anyone know how to change back to the default Windows settings screen for this page?

Thanks,

David

Default No Ringer

Installed this cab on an HD2 and it works well with my SIP provider. However, when a call comes in the ringer is silent and no vibration or anything. Basically no way to know when a call comes in except if I'm staring at the screen.

I can't find any options to select a ringer or any notifications. Is anyone having this problem or know a possible solution?

Edit: Nevermind... dumb user error. Got it working and life is good now.
