Are you in the USA? I'm in the USA and the VLC program says it's not compatible with my Nexus 7 and it says it's not available in my country. I have Android 4.4.2.

Just go to this link: http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-armv7/ and download the latest nightly. It works great.

Thanks! It's working. I didn't even think of trying the daily builds since the app store said it's not even compatible with my device.

Me too. The good thing mx player not working on 4.4.2 is forcing us to search better alternatives. Diceplayer is a good one. Samba server, ftp, stream, dts, audio booster etc. And no ads here.

Sorry my english.

Diceplayer has a nice Samba browser, but it won't play any of my .mkvs over my home network like MX would.

Phone: AT&T Galaxy Note 2 (i317) and Google Nexus 7 (2013)
Rom: SkyNote (4.3 Build) on Note 2 and CleanRom (4.4 Build) on Nexus 7

.mkv playing over home network nicely here.

Have you tried using a libffmeg.so diceplayer compliant?

The reason the play store says it is not compatible is because it is blocked in many countries including the US. I read somewhere that it is a licensing issue.
