I did the exact same thing, renamed a file while trying to unlock tether and soft bricked my phone. I was also on MK2.
Just use odin9 to reflash another image of mk2 no wipe from here:
That brought my s4 right back. You will need to root again though so I used this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2565758
and it also worked fine.

Also for what its worth, I was able to get the tether unlock to work!! I had all kinds of issues changing execute permissions on sh files in mnt sdcard so I didi it a different way. All you really need to do is replace a file and bounce the device.
Anyway I used an app called root explorer. First I went into system framework, and modified permissions on framework-res.apk. I clicked all the permission boxes. That is the file getting replaced. Next I went to mnt sdcard mk2_tether_unlock and renamed the file MK2framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk. Then I used root explorer to 'move' that file to system framework. It will nag you to copy or replace. Select replace.
Then all hell breaks loose as current running apps start to fail when you replace that live file. Just pull the battery or let the phone reboot on its own. When it comes back, it works!!!!!!!
