You concern about privacy in a Google product, while using Google phone and Google OS...seriously? Google don't need you to use GVoice they already know everything about you.

Unfortunately I've heard a rumor that Google Voice is being discontinued in a near future...Hope it's not true.

The rumor is that they might start charging for the service. -And seriously I think you're missing the point of the question.

I also have used GV for several years, one of the nicest features I use it for is when I'm at home and someone calls me on my mobile, I hit ignore and it transfers it to my Land line. Very cool. Been using it for over five years!

DONATE TO ME
I use Google voice for my work calls, texts and voicemails. This way only the people I want to have my personal number get that.

That rumor was also heard last year, and the year before. Not saying it won't happen, but I quit caring.

I use Google voice with an obihai. Works great. You can still forward and answer from cell and all that, but I haven't paid for a land line in years. All you do is sign in from work if you want to use it elsewhere.

As far as security goes, you are subject to being monitored whenever you are suspected of wrong doing, no matter which carrier you choose. And for that matter, VoIP is what all the major carriers use now anyways.

If you are strictly speaking from a standpoint of being spammed and site recommendations based on growing history, etc... Than you can just create a generic Google account and assign the number to that one, while still enjoying the other Google account (this is what I did to keep my g voice and personal phone separate).
