I tried both 2.2 and 2.5. I think I remember reading somewhere there is also 2.6 but I can't seem to find it. I don't know if that would work any differently but hey, I guess it's worth a try.

Should I maybe try with a clean re-install of the stock firmware?

edit: also tried 2.3, no luck. Will try a fresh install, root and busybox than take it from there.

Worth a try, then root and add busybox again, maybe using a different method from last time.

Only two root methods have worked thus far, one being the chinese VRoot and the other via Kingo Android Root desktop app. I'll give it a go and post my results. /fingerscrossed
