This. baby steps. 4k is at least 5 years away from becoming mainstream and phones will likely be on the trail end of that adoption. Let's go ahead and hit standard HD video spec before we get all up in arms about a video format that isn't feasibly useful on such limited storage with very few outlets for playback
Only of you sit too close. The definition is relative to the distance you sit from the size of screen.
Anyone who has a 50" hd screen that thinks it looks sd is sitting too close. They bought a tv that is too big for their room. Like I did. Now I.have a bigger room and sit the appropriate distance away, everything is much sharper

The main draw to 4K for me is you could zoom in on something (cropping it to 1080P) and not drop down in resolution. Not only that but most large computer monitors these days are far over 1080P, and youtube supports original resolutions on uploaded videos.
