I know this has been asked several times, but all the info seems out dated. I want to be able to stream my local media, preferably using my desktop to transcode the streams so I don't have to re-encode everything. Fling seemed like the solution, but the creator now has "This app no longer works for the public" posted on his page, and I can't find a download. Can I compile this from his source and use it on my rooted CC? Do I need to modify anything? Do I need the older version? Is this my only CURRENT choice for playback of local media files?

Look at the sticky FAQ and Index threads. They will answer all and a link to a working Fling copy.

The only proper implementation for transcoding is to use the Plex System right now. (this I assume will change later as more companies support CCast)

aVia does not do transcoding for CCast and in most cases even a DLNA server that has transcode capability for CCast aVia will not use it.
