Default How To Identify Which Kindle you Have

As there are a lot of people out there with the new generation of Kindle Fire HDs, and as the mods have yet to create the appropriate subforum for them, there is a lot of confusion over which Kindle is which. Any mods, tools, and ROMs in this subforum are probably for the 2012 version (Tate), so please read carefully before attempting anything to you device. At this time, there are no custom ROMs for the 2013 version (Soho).

Kindle Fire HD 7"
  • Released in 2012
  • Codename: Tate
  • Android Version: 4.0.3
  • Resolution: 1280 x 800
  • Buttons: All three power, volume up and volume down buttons are mounted on the right side of the device
  • Micro-USB port located on bottom
  • HDMI output on bottom
  • Camera on top

Kindle Fire HD 7" (2nd Generation)
  • Released in 2013
  • Codename: Soho
  • Android Version: 4.2.2
  • Resolution: 1280 x 800
  • Power button on back (left side), Volume buttons on back (right side)
  • Micro-USB on left side
  • No HDMI output
  • No camera

Despite being named the same thing, these tablets are VERY different, both hardware and software wise.

Phone: ZTE Valet Z665C
ROM: Stock
Kernel: 3.4.0-perf zte-kernel@Zdroid-SMT
Android Version: 4.1.1
Recovery: Stock
----------------------------------------------------------
Tablet: Amazon 7" Kindle Fire HD
ROM: CyanogenMod 11
Kernel: hashcode@hashcode-ubb #1
Android Version: 4.4

Recovery: TWRP 2.6.3.1

Both HD models have speakers on the sides.
