Default WiFi causes drop in signal strength

Why when my wifi is on do I lose all bars on my signal indicator for calls. Wifi calling is off. When I turn wifi off I get full bars that pops up immediately. Turn wifi back on and I lose all bars again and call quality sucks.
Using latest wicked rom.

It looks as though this is by design in order to save power- I've noticed however that the radio output power is reduced so much that call quality suffers- turn off WiFi, radio output increases and the call quality returns to what you would typically expect. Does anyone know how to disable this feature?
