I downloaded a player on my Android phone, called VidOn player, does it support software decoding or hardware decoding to play videos?

Hope to help you
Both, the default status is software decoding, but if the video supports hardware decoding then itíll automatically switch to hardware decoding.
Hope this helps.

It will automatically switch to HW decoding if your phone supports it. If phone does not support HW decoding, then it will use SW decoder.
