8sms free in the play store has an option to run with the stock messaging app removed. Called stand alone mode, I believe. Much better then the Samsung stock messaging app in presentation and features. Will fully replace any missing messaging app. I always use 8sms as my only messaging service after freezing via tibu the stock app.
