I want to root/unlock my Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE for the purpose of installing Cyanogenmod or another custom ROM. I don't like the extra apps that are bundled with the phone, and I'm disappointed with the overall speed and responsiveness of the device.

I was attempting to follow the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2214653 but did not meet the prerequisite of being on the correct software version 2.17.605.2 (my phone is on 2.19.605.2). I have attempted to flash RUU 2.17.605.2 using the bootloader, but the update is failing with the error "Main version is older" (full text below).

HBOOT

Main version is older!
Update Fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

I've taken a look at some other threads here and from what I can tell, it may not currently be possible to root this phone if you have the latest OTA update (2.19.605.2). I'm hoping that somebody can disabuse me of this notion, however; Can anyone confirm either way?

Perhaps a more pertinent question: Are there any custom ROMs that do not require root to install on an Inc4g? I've done a bit of searching but it seems not a lot of ROMs support this phone to begin with. Is there any way I can accomplish the two goals I mentioned above without rooting?

Thanks for the confirmation.

Anyone know of a way to successfully roll back the OTA update? I was unable to find anything with some searching.

Or how about making my phone faster/removing crapware without root?
