I just went the other way. I had the max since it launched. I have had problems with the battery and reception. It was also just a hair to big and heavy. The last straw was when sprint wouldn't do a warranty swap because they are backordered.

Aww man that sucks.. But so far the reception has been on our If not a hair better than the note 3.. But Samsung isn't exactly known for its well built radios although I must admit the note 2 had the best radio and reception outside of my original Droid x... And my battery life is about equal to what I was getting on the note 3 so... I can't complain either.. The only thing I can see that's gonna bother me is that I'm a case junkie and coming from the note to the max the case selection here is a bit thin
