Default Infra red port on left side of headphone jack?

Hi all. I wonder what is that think on the left side of the headphone jack? It looks like a infra red port but I don't think so right?

That's why you have the TV app. It acts as a remote for your TV.

Yes it's an IR transmitter. On stock roms (at least on vzw based one's I've tried) it's capable of controlling your tv and such through the appropriately named TV app.

Edit: when I first replied tapatalk wasn't showing the earlier edit specifying use via the TV app.

use smartIR from play store.

i use as my main remote for my tv, stereo and media player.

works better than the original remotes.

i had to use learn function to setup my media player.
