Do i need to be rooted first, or does this root as well?

I originally intended this to work for software version 7.4.6 and yes,there is a backup option to backup the stock boot,recovery and system images so you can just flash those in fastboot.

Ok thanks for the reply. Just one more thing though, how do I install backup from fastboot?

At first ,get your Kindle into Fastboot by turning it off,issue the following command in your terminal:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot-bootloader
Then,plug it in and it should boot into Fastboot.
Then issue the following lines one by one:
Code:
cd/
cd BackupFiles
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot stock-boot.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery stock-recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system stock-system.img

Okay,I decided to make a new DevDB project for my Flasher because this thread is getting a little confusing. For anyone wanting to follow my work,please check it out. Mods can close this thread.
