Default Solved - Root Check "System appears to be running very slow"

I have spent most of today rooting my Samsung Galaxy mini GTS 5570. I was extremely anxious about this but was confident in following the excellent instructions given by chemicalrage in:
[UPDATE] 2-2-13' Noob Friendly Tutorial|Root your Galaxy Mini/Pop|GingerBread| at

I found that when I ran Root check I obtained : “Please wait for Root Check to complete. System appears to be running very slow”. This did not complete.
When I ran Titanium Backup I obtained: “asking for root rights” Again this did not complete.

I repeatedly rooted and un-rooted the phone with no change.

Eventually I set my Galaxy to ADB mode (Settings>Applications>Development>check list USB debugging)

This solved the problem - Root Check Worked as did Titanium Backup.

I know that this is already likely to be set by experienced developers, but to newbies like me, it could make the difference between success and failure.

Thanks chemicalrage for an excellent post.

I am still experiencing difficulty in installing apps (insufficient memory error) but at least I have the device rooted now.
