My mom received a D800 that came with 4.4.2 installed. I want to root it but so far all the methods I have found has failed (I tried Kingo and a few methods for the G Pro 2) Is there a way to root without having to downgrade to 4.2.2? If you can provide that would be great!

I will give it a try, I think I tried this a few versions ago and it failed but it looks like it has been updated
