Adaway works great for me. Removes ads from all apps I have and they never come back...

I've tried both.. It's hard for me to get adaway to even work

Ad free works but then ads come back after a while

Adfree.

I don't seem to notice ads coming back, but I also know to open the app regularly, and have it update the hosts file. Just because the "check server" and "automatically apply updates" boxes are checked, doesn't necessarily mean it's updating the hosts file in the background. It seems that there's always a new hosts file whenever I open the app, that hasn't been downloaded and installed.

I use a combination of AD Block plus, and Ad free. I have no ads.
The trick is to keep them updated, and when AD free says to reboot, don't. Actually works better if you don't.
On Ad block plus use the default list, easy list english and keep it refreshed. Uncheck the acceptable ads box too.
I hate ads as much as you, I have tried and tested almost all. This seems to the best combo
