They shouldn't give you a hassle unless the device is completely borked BECAUSE of tinkering. If someone buys a turbo car and blows the engine because of a tune, that's a problem. But if the door locks fail , they 'll fix it without a doubt. (Under Warranty). Warranty is void only when the cause of the problem is due to the modification.

Ethically, it's not right for someone else to pay for the mistakes of others. I see that happen a lot in the business world and it affects the wrong people

Yeah I never go to a store. Complain on the phone then have them ship me a new one. Swap and done.
