They sell lots of stuff that will never see an update. Anyone who buys a device for the second carrier update from stock is likely to be disappointed more times than not. Highly marketed, highly popular phones have a decent chance of getting more than one, but the rest are one and done. It doesn't make financial sense for the carrier or the manufacturer in the US subsidized phone market. I don't know a single other person, personally, who has an LGOG. Why would AT&T waste resources to update an 18 month old phone that no one has. They aren't in business to be nice to you, they're in business to make money for their shareholders.
The Dev community here kicks ass. We have a very nice variety of good, stable ROMs. Enjoy them. Buy your next device based on hardware capability and Dev community enthusiasm... because good hardware with excited developers get the best ROMs. No waiting for nonexistent carrier updates required.
