Windows xp unlocking questions...

I've finally attempted unlock today. I know, not be a big deal for most. But in my present situation this is a small miracle. And last year I bricked my device with this same computer trying s-off so I'm being extra cautious and investing all my time reading (and no I'm not gonna try s-off on this thing again).
Anyway here's my scenario...
Windows xp old computer. Not even 2.0 USB lol
So I'm on htcdev and I install htc sync but it doesn't recognize my phone and Windows can't install with its new install wizard. And when I try to run adb devices in my cmd promt it shows the serial number and "unauthorized" next to it.
Besides a different computer anyone know how to fix (I'd really like to get this done at least)? This has got to be easier than I'm making it :banghead:

To get rid of the unauthorized go to settings>dev options and uncheck then re-check usb debugging. Now you should get a popup on your phone asking for permission to connect to your pc.

I personally don't use HTC Sync...if you do install it you can uninstall it afterwards and the drivers will remain.
