I feel like I'm very close, can anyone please help me?

The firmware can be flashed only in RUU mode.
Fastboot oem rebootRUU

fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
after that restore cwm backup.
Tellme whether it works I am on line

I just tried the RUU by fastboot. This is what I get. It seems that I have failed. Model Check Id failed

You need to Unzip the file and copy the FOLDER into cwm directory of the phone and choose restore, make sure you disable md5 check. This is not a flashable zip file but a zip of backup image.

you are already on 4.2.2 firmware, no need to flash anything at the moment.

I installed the firmware FIRMWARE_M7C_DWG_JB_50_S1_hTC_Asia_India_2.37.720 .1. All went well But now the phone is in a boot loop. It tries to boot, the HTC logo appears and then the screen goes black - and the whole thing repeats. My getvar all is enclosed.

Please help. Thanks

EDIT: Just realised - I can go to the bootloader. But anything I do, the result is same as above.

now restore the CWM image, you should be fine.

you just flashed the stock firmware which also had the stock recovery. you now need to flash the cwm recovery.

Thanks - I have been a bother.

All went through well upto the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img." command - and it ended properly.

But then could not reboot normally, phone goes into boot loop.

Perfect. Everything works now. Many thanks.
I am now on Android 4.2.2, Sense 5.0. The phone immediately downloaded software update 4.22.720.4 (833.06 MB) which it said is Android 4.4.2 update. But it cannot install for some reason. When I confirm to install, it boots to recovery, and after 2-3 seconds of recovery / installation activity, aborts, reboots to the old version. It then again informs of the available update - and the process repeats.

Any idea how to install this update?

You should flash the Firmware by renaming it to PN07IMG put the file in Sd card and flash it using bootloader

You need stock recovery to install OTA

I installed OTA through stock recovery, - but the phone stopped to recognize slot-1 SIM.

Any ideas? Enclose Getvar.
