Then followed the instructions clearly set out here in this video

The wait for device is the key - press this part WHILE the device is rebooting not afterwards

To those who are struggling

I installed HTC sync and SDK as described

Uninstalled HTC Sync and then installed HTC driver HTCDriver_4.2.0.001

Remove tamper flag - Thanks to xda developers from their thread

adb shell

su (if needed to get a # prompt)

echo -ne '\x00' | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p6 bs=1 seek=5314564
(copy/paste this)

exit
(exit a second time if you need to to get back to a normal > prompt)

adb reboot bootloader

Suggestion for the future...
It would be useful if firewater would unlock the boot loader even if the device is already s-off'ed. At the suggestion of HTC, I reloked the boot loader on my Verizon HTC One M8 using "fastboot oem lock". The state of the boot loader shows "RELOCKED". Attempting to unlock it again using firewater shows that there is nothing to do, probably because it finds the device as already being s-offed. I've found some references about using dd to update hboot directly, but did not want to use these because the device partitions might be changing. Any suggestions you might have for going from relocked to unlocked again would be very welcomed.
Thanks in advance!

Yes, let us know how we could help the Firewater team. There is large community of people who are eager to get their devices s-off. Thanks again for the great effort.
