Doesn't the jailbreak work with Rt 8.1 update 1? It says a registry key is missing... :\

EDIT: sorry wrong topic

Yeah, if they have a WP8 app then a Windows Store app should be easy. For a port to jailbroken RT though, we'd need the source code. Do you see a link to the source code on there?

Why is this so hard for some people...

Is it possible to use search before posting (you know, the number one rule on the forum)? ADB has been discussed many times before. My (un-checked) recollection is that it doesn't compile under MSVC, though the reason may have been different.

Hi,

Maybe, you might have seen me hanging around in slatedroid forums. I was around xda forums quite during the windows mobile 5 days.

If True crypt is hard to port to surface rt, what about the software called "Freeotfe."

http://www.osalt.com/freeotfe

Freeotfe works very much like truecrypt.

In the world of android, there is a program called LUK manager that can decrypt volume files encrypted by Freeotfe on the windows desktop.
This makes it very convenient because I can use the same encrypted volume file on the windows desktop as well as on the android tablet.

I hope someone who is good in porting legacy windows softwares to surface rt will look into these useful softwares.

I want so much to believe that there is hope in surface rt.

I used to be a big fan of windows pocket pc. Suddenly, capacitive touch screens became popular. There was a shift of interest for software interface menus that are finger friendly instead of having to pull out a stylus. There was also a great interest in making devices that can handle internet browsing well. Microsoft was slow to adapt to the change of interest for bigger screens, finger friendly menus, internet handling and therefore windows pocket pc faded away. Windows pocket pc used to dominate those days.

I like to see windows rt become successful but I am also aware that INTEL processor maker seems determined to enter the mobile devices market that used to be dominated by the ARM processor makers. Asus already manufactured their Fonepad android tablets with intel atom processor. So, it is a very difficult period to decide the future of windows RT.

It is nice that Microsoft has decided to create an arm based os and it is very impressive indeed. Just like in the days of the pocket pc, I am not expecting that microsoft ARM based operating system can do everything the INTEL based windows can do but i am hoping that it can at least handle useful softwares like

Truecrypt or
Freeotfe

as well as the Android.

If windows rt can handle softwares that the Android can handle than it won't be long before windows rt will become more powerful than the android. As much as we like softwares that are finger friendly, i don't think we can completely avoid having to use a stylus for certain programs. Windows rt is offering that freedom of choice use what is best according to the situation.

I believe you can use bitlocker on an external device if you want to hide your porn. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have downloaded it over the desktop store a while ago. Heres a .zip of the python folder found "c:/Programm Files (RTDS)"
http://ul.to/wouafsrf
hope it helps

Does anyone happen to know how to use the libFFI recently posted about in the Windows RT app list thread (http://xdaforums.com/showthread.php?t=2092348). Do I need to compile it somehow and add it to the already made Python or do I compile it with Python at the same time? I'm not so good with code I didn't write. =(

I really appreciate any help I get on this. The Foreign Function Interface library would be really useful for a few python scripts including youtube-dl.

I am trying to go through the posts, but I am not seeing so far is there a hack for 8.1 to run the x86 programs on it yet? Or is there a place to request programs to be compiled or instructions on how to compile them?

thanks everyone

No public jailbreak for 8.1 yet nor did the jailbreak allow x86 programs to run without recompile.

Requests for ports, there was a thread but you're probably fine posting here. But you are going to have to roll your device back to RT 8.0 before being able to use the jailbreak and run them

Well, the jailbreak did/does allow running the emulation layer, which enables some x86 apps to run (slowly) without recompilation. Once 8.1 is jailbroken, that same hack will *probably* work on it too.

Unfortunately, work on that emulation tool was discontinued. Hopefully it will get picked up again after 8.1 is jailbroken...

The installer is broken on 8.1, that's as far as I got though.

How does it fail? Does it simply hang or missing components?

We might be able to take a look at it after RT 8.1 has a jailbreak :) Or reimplement it as mamaich said he originally had a better implementation in mind (however I think he didn't tell us about specifics?)

msiexec refused to load the msi, that's all I got to. My guess is they made it require a different version string, but I haven't looked into it.

That being said, there's really no reason it shouldn't work in 8.1, it just won't work as packaged.
