Will a rooted phone be compatible with the gear2?

I am looking at getting a gear 2 or gear fit. If I root/install a custom rom, any ideas if it will still be able to sync with my phone?

Can never be unlocked without a leak from Samsung. Root is possible just hasn't been done or confirmed yet.
