I downloaded WinDroid toolkit and was curious if I can obtain root by just using the toolkit or are there any tricks I need to be aware of? This is on an HTC One X+ US version running 4.2.2 completely stock? Basically just trying to get root to remove all of ATT bloatware. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

The WinDroid Toolkit will get you fully rooted, no tricks involved.

Do I have to unlock the bootloader to root? Another question, I take it I can still root even though the phone received the OTA update to 4.2.2? Thanks

You do need to unlock your bootloader to root and you can root with the 4.2.2 OTA.
