Here's the thing. Update to firmware L first coming from C without root. Then once upgraded, root and follow instructions. Confirm you have root and check for ota via changing the date to a day ahead.

Log me in as another happy guy with rooted 4.4.2 on AT&T Flex.

used LG Flash to flash the TOT file, rooted then updated. in that order. worked like a charm!
